When did you become a Cowboys fan?

I remember doing whatever I had to do to watch the Cowboys on Sunday
Even if it was to drive to Connecticut, from Rhode Island
It was a good thing they were in the NFC East,
Rotary antenna, but that didn’t do better than 30 miles so that didn’t help
70s were pretty difficult to watch every cowboy game

Sometime in November 1974. My grandmother (mother's side) was getting re-married. She did not want a church wedding, so the family drove to our pastor's house. The ceremony was over fairly quickly and I noticed Reverend Murray's television was on.

I was nine and bored. Sue me.

So, I left the grown-ups and my brother and sat down in front of his tv. The third quarter was starting (this was still during the time my local network affiliates did not give a <expletive> about carrying Saints games over Cowboys games). Dallas was down by three scores to... Washington. They rallied, but came up short.

I don't know. It was something about the way the Cowboys and Washington played the game that made me side with Dallas. It was obvious neither team liked each other. At all. There were booming hits on both sides. Even so, something drew me completely to Dallas' side. The rest is history.

And that is how my eternal... dislike (safe word) for Washington began also. It has been 52 years and no team has displaced them from the top of my list. Do not like those just stop typing DE family forum.

And y'all are greatly appreciated.

Just one more big contribution from the Greatest Generation
IM not sure how old you are, but the Greatest Generation is people born from 1901-1927. Just to help you keep things straight, I think you are off a couple of generations with who is in here.....lol

Here's a follow up: what is your first specific memory of watching a Cowboys game? What detail(s) stick in your mind?
While I remember watching SB12, it is vague. I vividly remember throwing a tantrum in the 81 title game. Good thing we didnt have a remote control back then. It would have gone into the TV screen.

If you look at the pic above my name, I personally took that picture at the 92 NFC title game. I had a borrowed camera from my work with a big zoom lens. I didnt have a clue what I was doing, and yet I snapped a pic from one of the most iconic moments in the history of our team!

1971 season.

Watched SB against the Colts January ‘72 with my Dad. Had all their cards..Renfro, Green, Thomas, Staubach, Howley, etc.

It’s too bad the younger fans didn’t get to see those great teams. What a great organization it was at the time. 20 straight winning seasons. Very classy.

My youngest son is 29 and a fan. All he’s known is dissatisfaction with the current administration.

His patience is wearing thin.

a real fan has no patience. We are stuck. I can no more switch the NFL team I like than I can switch from liking woman to men.
