One factor is that advances in medical care now keep people alive who would have otherwise died from their injuries, as well as helping those people live longer lives.

The mental aspect is real too. Some of the videos of men with shell-shock from WW1 is horrifying

When I retired, they told me I could get disability for a broken ankle and a broken toe I suffered during training. My ankle and broken toe have healed nicely and in no way a disability. They said I could still file. They also said if you’ve ever had hemoroids, that’s another few %. I know vets with 70, 80% disability out playing golf. There’s a lot of guys who try and take advantage of the system and get away with it. There’s needs to be a bit more oversight on who qualifies and who doesn’t. Lots of folks deserve and need that disability to survive. Then there’s the others.

That was totally unexpected because ive heard so many stories of civilians having to hire a lawyer just to get disability for legit issues.

I worked with an inspector at the Airlines that developed Parkinsons disease and the hoops he had to jump through to get covered was unbelievable.

Remember watching the ice bowl with my uncle and grandfather but at 6 years old the most I remember about the game was them being highly pissed off that the Cowboys lost.

That said as I grew older I learned the players and understood the game as I was playing it myself on a daily basis.

I was full-blown on it by the time the Cowboys were playing the colts remember Bob Lilly throwing his helmet in that crazy game.
