Better yet, have you bought into him even actually making the cut? This is not an anointing oil thread topic. Players' careers are made or broken in regular-season and/or postseason games. This topic asks if you believe he earned his opportunity. What he actually does with his opportunity from this moment on is not the question.

I bought in after what I saw him do in the preseason Seahawks game. Practice does not sell me. What a player does or does not do in a simulated game, even against backups, matters to me. At minimum, for wide receivers and tight ends, I want to see receptions caught within the player's catch radius. High/low passes. Throws placed in front and behind. Adjusting by jumping or diving for the ball. Fighting successfully for positional advantage against their defender.

A wide receiver's number one responsibility is catching catchable passes because no quarterback will ever throw perfect passes 100% of the time. It is still their job to haul in catchable passes, not the quarterback's.

I watched Michael Irvin coaching up Brown in @Xizor's thread. Irvin has always been supportive of any Cowboys player he has ever met. He has always lent his expertise to anyone. Irvin advises defensive players on what they should be looking for. That is the kind of guy he is.

What Irvin does not do is overhype the potential he sees in a young receiver. He knows what it takes. Irvin sees All-Pro potential in Brown. He likely bought in well before I did.

I had heard/read that he was making great catches at camp. Then when he did it in two straight preseason games I thought they might be on to something.

Usually, someone will make a great play at camp but then do nothing in the games… or have a great catch in a game but disappear in camp practices. So, it caught my attention that he was doing it every time he had a chance.

But when I felt like he was going to make the team for sure was when I heard Schotty say that Brown was always watching the plays and asking questions.

If he is doing all that, then I knew he’d make the 53.

He deserves it too. 100%

I'm still not "sold," per se. There are quite a few more steps to clear facing a step-up in competition if he's going to be this all-world receiver folks are hyping him to be. Honestly, I'd settle for him being a money-found, reliable #3 vs. an All-Pro. Great job going from UDFA to making the team his first season but let's see how he responds having a log jam in front of him and not playing much for an entire season. Will he stay hungry and be ready once his number (might be) is called?

As for the thread question, even Seattle broadcasters knew of him in camp so when he started making plays, I knew the Cowboys were going to have to think about shuffling things if they wanted to keep him.

Word was he still rounded his routes. Not making the cuts as he should. The mentioned that in one of the PS games. Which is why I feel he will be inactive on game days. As they can’t keep 6 WR”s active. Unless one is a game time decision.

The DB also had a little bit of an angle to catch him. But not a lot.
I think of that was Mingo, he would have not been caught.

That possibility may very well happen, but it does not change what has already happened. Some believed Camden Brown would not even be subject to your precaution because it was thought he would not have made the cut in the first place.

I have no data. My assumption is completely unscientific. I would challenge anyone to find more written or audio quotes of Michael Irvin describing average or fair players as having All-Pro potential than of players who ended up very good or great.

Michael Irvin after Dallas acquired Joe Milton III last year:

"Don't give this kid a chance, Dak, don't give this kid a chance," Irvin said on his YouTube channel.

"You better stay healthy, stay ready, stay on the football field. Now remember, you're making $60m a year. This kid (is) making only $1m. If you give him a chance to get on that the field … it's going to be ugly."

Now, he may not have described Milton as having All-Pro potential, but he was certainly saying he could take a franchise QB's job if given the chance. ... And that was essentially the result of a quick search in which I only looked for Irvin's comments on two players: Jonathan Mingo and Joe Milton. Could not find any Irvin hyperbole on Mingo.
