When do we cut the apron strings?

Anyone have any idea when we start negotiations with our own FA and there by cutting the apron strings with Julius?

Jones becomes a FA when the free agency period begins in March.

We can negotiate with our own players whenever we want. im not sure what the RFA tender deadlines and whatnot are though.

I think if we were going to offer Jones any contract other than a real lowball offer, the team would have done so already.

There were some rumblings that Jones didn't take the "demotion" to 2nd string behind Barber in the playoff game all that well. If that rumor is true, I"m guessing it's the last nail in the coffin in Dallas. This team needs guys that are stepping UP not regressing and whining and pouting. Team needs leaders and playmakers, not sulkers (Ellis you listening?).

I don't think Jones wants to stay as a 3rd stringer (you can bet they'd still draft a RB) and the Cowboys don't want him as an everydown back and maybe not even as a complement to Barber anymore.

It's almost 99% certain he's gone, I'm just curious how much someone else pays him. I'm also curious if someone is willing to take the chance and give him 25 plus carries a game for half a season to see if he can get his mojo back. He is a bit of a slow starter/inconsistent in games, and that can kill drives. It's a real risk with Julius to stick with him and in many games you'll find yourself behind if you take that strategy.

Then he went somewhere else, I think it was Tampa, and he started to play sorta well and he was gonna be the next big thing again.
And he never was?

Thomas Jones was pretty good with Chicago and they badly missed him this season. It was obvious that his O-Line and lack of a passing attack hurt his season with the Jets. But he's a solid tailback that is far better than his brother.

I can't argue that Thomas Jones wasn't bad in Chicago but he was the 7th pick in his draft and has never lived up to that status on the field.
JJ was handpicked by the master RB talent evaluator and, except for about 3 games, has never lived up to that status.
