When Do Yards Matter?

The offense puts up great yards, but not a terribly huge number of points, no one is impressed. 2 touchdowns 3 field goals. Would I like more touchdowns sure, but we still put up enough points to beat most teams.

The cowboys defense holds the Seahawks to 13 points, but apparently they gave up too many yards? One touchdown and two field goals...

I mean the hypocrisy here is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

If the offense is scoring more than 21 points and the defense is giving up less than 17 points, I'm pretty happy... But that's just me.

I think they matter because they lead to trends.

Teams do not suddenly score more without first learning to move the football.

High yardage eventually leads to more points. Same as Time of Possession leads to more yardage accumulated and fewer allowed quite often.

Yards matter because it takes 10 or more for a first down. Yards matter because it is a gauge from which to measure.
