when does the free agency begin?

I was going to start my own thread with this question, but decided to just highjack yours........

I'm starting to really warm up to the idea of signing Mario Williams.

Does anyone have any recent info on the prospects of him hitting FA?

The more I think about it, the more I see him as the missing piece on defense. I believe he could do real well at LOLB for us in our base defense and give us a lot of options in the Nickel. Could even see him playing some DT next to Ratliff.

IDK I still feel LCB is the greatest FA need and Nicks would be an awesome acquisition tothe interior OL.

But Williams really has me intrigued.

Was the date moved back in the new CBA? It used to be the start of March.

I wish they would put Free Agency after the Draft like it was last year due to the Lockout. It made a lot more sense.

I've been advocating that for years. Makes no sense to have FA before the draft.

None at all. The Senior Bowl, Combines, etc. all prepare you for the Draft.

Oh wait, in the middle of all of those let's sign and release veteran players before we even know what is available to us in the Draft.

IIRC We can sign any player that gets released before that date.

So, hypothetically, if Manning gets cut from the Colts, anyone can sign him right away.

Edit:

We can re-sign our guys at any time.

Just got to set up the call/meeting with the agent to discuss a new contract.

Not saying I disagree, but Garrett talked about this in his last interview with Sham.

He believes FA first makes more sense. You fill the needs in FA. Then you go into the draft looking BPA.

Now that makes sense to me. You go after blue chippers and middle of the road guys and leave no glaring holes. That puts in the best position to stick with your board.
