Interesting subject. Teams do not like to show their hand. I can think of only these answers:

1974, the 1st pick in the draft, Ed Too Tall Jones, DE Tennessee State, a larger than life 6'9" DE with the largest wingspan the NFL ever had.
1975, 2nd pick in 1st round. Atlanta for sure was picking the best QB, Steve Bartkowski, leaving college football's best defensive player who carried his Maryland team on his back to a top 10 position, Randy The Manster White
1977, the 2nd pick in the draft for Tony Dorsett, after an enormous trade, the Boys' #1, and three #2's. The Boys were desperate for a stud RB and Dorsett carried PITT to the NCAA championship. Well, he took the Cowboys to a Super Bowl win.
1989: Troy Aikman as first pick of first round. This was a consensus no-brainer.
1991, we had the first pick. Jimmy wanted Rocket Ismail, but he wanted too much money, so he went for the safe pick, his own DT from the U, Russel Maryland, whom was not predicted.

The last time I knew for sure who the first rd pick was going to be was Troy Aikman. I had a pretty good idea about Vander Eshe and some others but Aikman I had zero doubt.

1990. Somehow I knew Dallas was going to end of with Emmitt Smith.
Jimmy failed twice to move up to get a LB, James Francis, Lamar Lathon. So he "settled" in a trade up to take Emmitt. Who he thought the NYG were going to take. NYG got Ronny Hampton instead.

I was so glad those trades failed, and was estatic they got Emmitt. I told my wife and son at that time, as they was wondering why I went so crazy.
I told them who they picked. And that they will be in the SB in 2 or 3 years.

My wife did not watch any games, but seen some as I watched the games. Emmitt quickly became her favorite player.

If you ever listen to Broaddus and his guys they usually nail the pick 1-2 days before. He nailed booker and Revel. Also guyton, trysten hill etc

I listen to him quite a bit. He mentioned all of those names as well as many others.

The Tyler Smith pick gained steam right around this time (a week/days before) that draft year.

The Cowboys generally don't lie when it comes to who they plan on going after.

Yeah. On the final 1-2 days guys like Schrager and Broaddus have sources saying this is the guy for sure
