No - he roots for the US team like he roots for the boys. Which is the way it should be.

As you know, you can root for a team but also think that they suck. I root for the U.S. but I realistically see them as a terrible team with no heart. Sorry that I'm not the idiot shouting "U-S-A U-S-A" regardless of the quality of play

Quality of play is a point- but the simple fact is that I doubt we will ever really have a great team in soccer; while it is true that millions play as children, their interest disapears once high school hits- and Soccer will never be a big sport here. Just too little scoring and too boring.

Hmmm. NBA has tons of scoring -- it is still deadly dull to watch. I think it is more that there simply aren't recognizable faces in soccer that folks know. Millions of kids play it but few know who any of the pro players are. Kids play football, basketball, etc. and imagine they are certain players. Lots of kids have a rich fantasy life built around playing like Kobe or even Petyon Manning. Kids play soccer because the lady in the minivan would be upset if her kids were the only ones on the block who didn't.

Yeah I agree about the NBA- its no longer real basketball.
And you are probably right about the "soccer moms" - how much is it that kids really want to play and how much is it politically correct moms, etc pushing their kids to play.

I think for the most part, if your mom wants you to do something, then it just isn't cool.

For that I am eternally grateful.
I hate soccer as much as the next guy but I thought the indoor soccer they had years ago was fairly decent to watch. There was some guy named Tatu or something (insert Fantasy Island joke here) that was fun to watch play.

One fairly consistent thing i have noticed about people that dont like soccer is they dont understand the rules so they look at the screen and just see people kicking a ball back and forth and running to spots for no apparent reason. Now i am not saying that any of the soccer haters fit this mold but i do believe that a lot of the animosity overall comes from this.

How people can hate soccer yet watch baseball has always made me wonder though.

I'd have to say I've never had to watch baseball for three weeks to see somebody score.
When I coach youth tackle football I'm always amazed at how many good atheletes are practicing soccer on the fields next to us and how their moms are just cut throat on the sidelines but their scared to let their kids play football with us.

Trust me, I understand the game. I just don't like it.

I love soccer. I even play indoor soccer (co-ed so don't think i'm a pro). Watching soccer is either exciting or boring as heck....like a boring basketball or baseball game. So I can understand why people don't like watching it. But to bash it is ignorant....it's not the number one sport in the world for nothing. I dont get why people have to bash things they don't like. Why can't people just say, "Eh, its not my cup of tea." and move on?

#1 sport in the world. Big Deal. Once upon a time everyone thought that the world was flat. Once upon a time everyone had no problem with a King running a country with nothing and no one to say no to him. I could care less what the rest of the world thinks.

Sometimes it is good to listen to the opinions of others. Simply dismissing them is just as ignorant as being a slave to what other people think. It is called "perspective."

I agree with this. I like soccer, even though I restrict my viewing to the European Leagues. It can be stunning entertainment, high drama and comedy in the 90 minutes it takes to play a game.

I could go on and on about why I think baseketball is a sport for the genetic mutants, but I let people carry on with what they enjoy.
