When teams stack the box for the run

It should be the Dez Bryant and Ezekiel Elliot show and instead im watching the Cole Beasley and JAson Witten play not to lose show.

Given how Elliot was running the ball and how clueless Dez is in dealing with double coverage, if it had been the Dez and Zeke show, we would have lost by 20. Even when Dez is single covered, he almost never has any separation whatsoever and needs to use his vertical to outjump defenders, which is a crapshoot at best. I'm thinking that maybe this guy is vastly overrated. He's got all the strength, leaping and catching ability in the world, but it's all undone because he isn't capable of running in complex passing schemes and doesn't have good route running. So it turns into what you saw -- a few go routes for Dez when they're able to set him up in single coverage and see if he can come up with the ball.

Well according to Garrett, Dez is drawing double coverage, so that's 2 players. They are stacking the box with 8, so 8+2=10. Then you have Witten, TWill, Zeke and Beasely singled up, so that 4 more players. That's 14 players.

So the answer, according to Garrett is that the other team plays with 14 players, giving them a big advantage!
Outstanding.

The Giants stacked the box every time Dak was under center. Until he can drop back and pass from under center teams will keep doing it
Garrett is now dusting off the old delay draw play to Felix Jones to counter this.

That's fair of you to think that but I think Jason Garretts play designs are the only reason this though cross your mind.

Again, from 2012-2014 nobody in the NFL scored more TD's than Dez Bryant. He was the king of pay dirt. Last years injury was a set back.

But he wasn't scoring more TD's than anyone in the league over the course of 3 years because of great play designs.

How many of those TD's are on great play design?

I disagree....i think its a shortcoming of our staff....Dak can easily make those handoffs....play action, read options in those sets.

Went back and looked at some of the running plays.
It seems Zeke had more success when we were NOT in the 12 formation with 2 TEs.
Anyone else see the same thing?

I think we do that for running, but it seems we need to draw defenders away.
We may also do that to protect Romo.
But we dont have Romo in there right now...

when we trot out that 12 formation...their defense knows we are running the ball....its like tipping off our hand.

which is my point in this thread....you lineup 4 WR sets, the defense has to defend the whole field.

totally agree.
no imagination by the coaches

i would even line up dez and witten on the same side but with witten on the outside!
no way they put a LB on dez but they can go ahead and put a S/LB (better run defender) to cover witten on the outside
they could cross their patterns and cause more havoc

even if they single cover all 4 receivers, that would leave 7 defenders in the middle.
7 defenders have to deal with 5 OL, zeke/morris and a QB that can run

chances are the D will be in nickel or dime, and we would have a big advantage in the running game.
If you guys can draw up a play like this why can't our coaching 'brainstrust' do it?

even if we have the 12 personnel, we could still spread out both TE on the outside. the D can go ahead and put CBs on the TEs if they want to. or they can go ahead and put their best CBs on the TEs. or they can go to the dime and play zone. or they can go ahead and single cover both TE and both WR to play the run. it seems we have the advantage in all these cases.

the most silly thing to do is NOT to spread out the TEs and draw the defense in to stop the run...

You spread out with 4 recievers and you only of 5 blockers for their 7 defenders. What's so great about that?
That means there cannot be safety help. One db for every receiver if they are playing man. But if it's zone scheme then they can still defend

well then..............lets see it happen, cross up opposing defenses who until he shows he can.........will stack the box in situations.......he might as well scream we are running the ball

someone explain to me why we cant lineup in 4 WR sets and spread out defenses, and pound away? surely with 4 WR's that takes away 4 defenders, leaving only 7 to play the middle of the field....right?

wouldn't you think if we started the game with those type of sets, defenses will be on their heels?
To do this you actually need a creative gameplan...............we have Garrett.
