When the Cowboys sit out in fa again, what will be a true needs come draft time?

Rookies aren't going to fix the roster this season. If they're lucky like the Eagles were with the two DB picks you might find two players that can make significant contributions. In 2020 they picked Lamb and Diggs who both played pretty well as rookies and went on to be good players. We have a lot of unrestricted free agents and it will probably depend on what the price tag is. I definitely wouldn't pay Martin $18M. If Lawrence is in the Von Miller stage of his career I'm not sure $13M is money well spent. If Osa gets the pay day they are talking about I wouldn't pay that either.

Last off-season was so awful, it is hard to imagine the Cowboys doing anything in free agency this year. If they blamed the CAP last year, what has changed this year to improve that situation? Not much really.

I don't believe anything Jerry and Stephen say at this point. After the all-in fiasco, only seeing is believing. Sure, they will claim there is interest in re-signing Odighizuwa. They will claim interest in some free agents who will sign with other teams. But until they actually sign a player that isn't cheap, washed-up or failed somewhere else, I am believing nothing. I don't think they will pay Odighizuwa anything near what he will get in free agency. I have my doubts they will sign Golston. Jerry remember they did not try to sign Armstrong or Fowler last year. They just let them walk and neither was that expensive.

I think the Cowboys will sign someone in the $6 to $8 million a year range and make a big deal about it. This is all in.

I think what they need to do is obvious. They need to rebuild the offensive and defensive lines. What I want to see is a commitment to doing that. I want to see high draft picks on DL and maybe some free agent activity to fix the OL. But something tells me they will draft a RB and WR, for Dak, and a DT in the 5th round.

Heard Osa's return was in the discussions when interviewing Eberflus. I am expecting him to return. Also, expect a few low level signings that have played under these coaches to help with the transition, kind of like the Kendricks signing last yr.
This is the bind we keep getting into. We will have some players who arent difference makers, they are either avg. starters or decent rotational players.

Our option, like with Osa, Gholston, etc and several of our FAs last yr is to resign them to more than they are worth and keep the status quo, or let them leave and replace them with worse in most cases.

DT, WR, RB, LB for me.
I think upgrading at WR is a huge need. But I also think, that they think, Mingo will be that guy. Or else they wouldn't have given up a 4th for him. And make no mistake about it, they see that 4th as an investment into the WR position and they don't like to walk away from investments.

Tony Pauline who is a legitimate insider said they want either a 1st or 2nd rd receiver, this tells me they don't believe they have one on their roster.

Yes. Not a fan of resigning Osa either as I don't see a difference maker. It be fair to Osa, they have had nothing behind him since he arrived and has played too many snaps. Think in a good rotation, he would be even more effective.

almost the same as last year.
offense:
ol
rb
wr

defense:
dl
lb
db

If Dallas does little or nothing in FA, you could argue they have a need at almost every position. Thinking they can fill those holes with rookies is comical. 5-7 wins, here we come!!!

Outside of Parsons, most important to fill for this scheme. Believe if they want osa back, they will get him back. Outside of Gregory, they keep the players they want to keep. I’m expecting Parsons, OSA, Lewis and a bunch of low level signings in fa, perhaps players who have worked with our new coaches to help with the transition.
And even that is a lot of FA money.

They've stated Osa is a priority. Same with Parsons. I do wish they'd stop with the passive aggressive nonsen
There is zero evidence they are changing the way they do business. Jerry even came out recently and said it will be a similar offseason as last year.
Zero evidence?

So you'd say the hiring of a staff that has always been dedicated to running the football first is zero evidence of a change in philosophy? Is that a fair assessment of what you're saying?

And the quote you're talking about has zero context behind it or after it.

Doesn't mean they are going to buy players on the open market, but rather put a bigger emphasis of player development.

I can see where you'd come away thinking that. I just get the sense that, if even just out of necessity, there is starting to be a swing in other direction coming. Micha has been extremely vocal about wanting them to bring people in, even saying he'll take a smaller deal to help make that happen CD is begining to chirp some too, albeit not in same way.

I would be very surprised if they even sign a mid-tier fa as they have done that in over a decade. Players can complain, but they will continue to go down the same path. It's like they lost their will to take chances, just look who they hired as a HC and what was out there.

Unfortunately, that's where we are headed unless that makes changes the way they operate this team.
