Gotta say, I don't think the actions displayed in the vid were really a form a racism.

Sorry ...... but there was 3 refs arguing with the team ...... only one of them got attacked.

But we have been disagreeing all day so I am not surprised its continuing. :laugh1:

Lol.. I guess because I've reffed such a long time that I know race rarely comes into play when passion+ignorance meet together in a basketball gym.

This past summer, I was reffing a b-ball game and my co-official (white male) got into it with a coach (black male). Same scenario as what sparked that brawl. Youth coach with only sketchy knowledge of the rules gets mad because he thinks too many fouls are going against his team.

His assistant was barking at me too until I told him to sit down and don't get back up. And if he got up, I was kicking him out of the gym. I try not to engage in that kinda stuff from bench personnel, but it happens.

I'm seeing my co-official and the coach go back/forth everytime the ref passes him on the floor. I force a switch so they don't have that opportunity. Then there was a timeout called and the coach took that opportunity to loudly gripe to his wife who had walked to the bench.

My co-official heard him griping and it was on. Total testosterone driven BS. The coach's wife tried to intervene and I told her to go sit down. Told the ref to go to the other side of the court and the coach to go talk to his players.

The problem is now the players have taken on the coach's frustration. The players are fouling harder, pushing more after play is stopped, and generally it's a harder game to call because it's gotten so physical.

I could go on and on, but ultimately I think we can both agree that brawl was a terrible blight on youth sports.

Yup.

The video was showing one form of racism ..... the comments another.

We still have a long way to go ...... 2 steps forward one step back.

Other way around, man - 1 step forward, 2 steps back.
