People think I’m old and are treating me that way just because I am. My slip isn’t showing so don’t ask, but I’ve been old for a while now. Anyone remember Dandy Don Meredith? When I first became conscious of football Meredith was The Man. I learned football from Meredith and Landry and a bunch of rowdy kids in the field over there. I’m old.
I am a science, look it up, talk to experts kinda guy. Let me give two things I learned in my studies in prep for my retirement that have stood me well as I get even older than I was. Yes, I researched my retirement.
First, walk.
Simple. A moderate amount of exercise. I have a treadmill I get up on (moderate walking speed) for about 30 min twice a day. During my morning session I watch NFL network, Kyle and Jamie. Afternoon I get Tony and Wilbon on PTI.
Second, keep mentally active. I’m here at Cowboys football to give me another bunch of topics I can pick from to discuss, argue, rant with some “hard pressed for wins” “too long in coming” “when will this drought end!” fellow travelers. It’s called commiseration. Share your pain with your friends.
As for the existential dread? It’s going to happen. You can’t stop it. All you can really do is try to enjoy what is your world as you find it today, try to stop crying and kiss somebody. Find a kid to hug. It helps.
