When will the appropriate time be to name Dez the starter?

I think that the best time would be during the preseason because the media will be all over this and the Cowboys don't need the distraction during the regular season. Look how the media used the shoulder pad incident to stir up controversy amongst RW and Dez. The sooner Dez is named the sooner the team can move on.

Enough with the keeping him under wraps, getting him ready, etc.

Is there anybody besides Austin who is better?

Put the lad in the first game. Then make RW carry his pads into the postgame lockerroom.

Hmm.. After Bryant roasts Hall, that is going to be funny to come back with on this board.

If I'm Jason Garrett, I'm really looking forward to that match-up.

my guess is that roy will be the "starter" for almost every game all season but snap wise i think dez will end up with as many, or more than, roy by the end of the season. but he will earn his game snaps by demonstrating knowledge of the play book in practice and his performance in the snaps he gets each game.

or we can just open every game with the miles in the slot package we have been seeing in camp

Anyone who claims to know the answer to this question, must beilieve that they know something that even our coaches couldn't possibly know yet.

Sometimes I wonder how many of Bryant's fanbois were the same people who were putting Bennett in the Pro Bowl in preseasons past.

Let's see him in a few games rather than taking the word of a few bloggers before we start carving the bust for Canton.

i really don't see why dez should start over miles

seems like proboel one day and next you want a rook to steal his slot without even a chance to prove himself

X 2

Is it starting to become apparent why I made an early appeal, "tap the brakes."

Who said "put him in Canton"?

Roy Williams isn't that high of a bar.

The Cowboys got nothing out of Roy Williams last year against the Commanders.

Bryant is picking up the offense fast, and if the coaches don't want to watch Roy Williams get blanked by DeAngelo Hall, again, they should start Bryant.

i hope the coaches learned their lesson when Miles had his breakout game - you have to give some guys a chance in game situations to see what you have. I think they'll start the season with a heavy dose of Bryant, and if he stumbles then lean back on RW if needed, but you have to put 88 on the field early and often to see if he is indeed as advertised. if he is, you win - if he isn't you bring him along a little slower. but I believe Wade and Garrett will want Bryant on the field making plays from Game One... RW had his chance.

When he knows the full playbook.

I think Vintage has the right idea, but with a few reservations. I want to see him in a few games first, because it is very rare for a rookie wr to make that big an impact. With out seeing him on the field against top defenders, it is very hard to make a call here.

From what I read and hear though, I think this guy might be one of those rare cases, and than Vintage is on the mark. Don't play this guy full time until you are sure, there will be no hesitation on Bryant's part. He has to know his assignment on each and every play.

Of course the correct answer is: it depends.

He's got to master the playbook. He's got to learn the reads and adjustments. And he's got to show up in games, preseason or otherwise.

A starting role is just as likely to be a result of an injury as a promotion.

and finally, the 3rd WR is pratically a starter anyway. The speculation is moot.

Probably a few.

But there are some obvious, I hope, differences.

Bennett is a clown. Dez isn't.

Bennett was never regarded as a near can't miss, best at his position player in college. Dez was.

Bennett appeared to have maturity issues as soon as he hit Dallas as a rookie. Despite being characterized that way by the media, Dez has been all business.

Who do you want lining up across from DeAngelo Hall on opening night? Dallas has not torched Hall, yet. That needs to change, and # 88 has the ability to do it, in spades. That will probably be the consistent one-on-one match-up on the outside. Hall VS Williams or Bryant

Look at what Roy Williams did against the Commanders last year according to Pro Football Focus:

2 Games:

8 Targets

1 Reception

4 Yards

TD 1

Dallas scored 7 and 17 points against the Commanders last year.

Who gives you the best chance to win against Hall, because Hall has taken care of Roy Williams. Dallas knows who Roy Williams is. Bryant wasn't brought to Dallas to carry Williams' bloody shoulder pads. Dallas moved up to draft Bryant, so Bryant could improve a weakness and take Williams' job and improve the offense's abilty to score.

Bryant gives you the best chance to win, imso.

By the time September comes around, he will be even more ready to play.

Bryant has more ability than Austin, imo.

How can you not start him?

This is going to be good.

I'm loving every miniute of this, because Bryant is putting the coaches in a postion where they will have no choice.
