Where are the touchbacks we saw with regularity last year???

I didn't see the stats before but it seems that Beuhler only has 1 or 2 touchbacks this season. What gives?? Last year was almost unreal as most of the kicks seemed to get bombed to the back of the end zone. A touchback obviously would have prevented the opening 2nd half KO return for a TD. I don't think a touchback would have been possible last week when the Titans returned the kickoff that was kicked from our 15 yard line but they still should have done a better job bringing him down before he got beyond midfield. What in the heck is the matter with special teams this year??

For some reason the coaching would rather directionally kick.

I don't get it either.

Someone should lose their job over it.

Yeah its mind boggling, and its VERY obvious thats what Buehler is doing.

Stupid coaching IMO. The guys got a booming leg, let him use it.

Yep. That direction kick mess just angers me. I hate short kickoffs. Most infuriating thing about football for me. If you can get a touchback 100% of the time, you get a touchback. He was drafted just for that reason. If we wanted to directional kick, we would have been happy with Folk.

I don't agree it is directional kicking. I just don't believe anyone would be that stupid. No way do you risk a return if the guy can kick it in the end zone for a touch back.

I think all the FG kicking has made his leg more tired, so the coaches have adjusted.

directionally kick...which resulted in a 15 yrd penalty for going out of bounds. Dead horse, but WE NEED TO SIGN KICKER ASAP SO BUEHLER CAN DO KICK OFFS.

I think you need pay attention to whats said duting the week then, because just a couple weeks ago this was covered, and they said they were having him do it.

Now some of it then may have been because he was hurt (he did have a hurt knee) but he says he is healthy now.

Its very obvious when you watch him kick (ie, that close up they showed today) that he's purposely trying to kick them high and to a certain area.

No joke dbair. Touchback = no return. Obviously the directional kicking hasn't helped yet because the special teams coverage and tackling has been horrendous. Why the hell not kick it to the back of the end zone??

That's easy. It's in the crapper with everything else we thought we were building on last season. Absolutely in the crapper!!!!!

This is the reason. The problem I have is that you now have a mediocre fg kicker and a mediocre kick off guy. His touchbacks last masked our problems on kick coverage, we should have aquired another fg kicker and just have him as a kickoff specialist and you shore up 2 areas on special teams.

My only thought about the kicking situation is if the the reason we kept the kicker was his ability to get touch backs, why are we asking him to directional kick? I mean, we all now know he can't kick a field goal to save his life, so why not get one of the other out-of-work kickers (there's got to be about 50 of them out there) to come in and directional kick? At least they can kick field goals!
