For most coaches approaching their rookie year as an NFL Head Coach, just winning more games than you lose is a big win.

Maybe getting into the playoffs would be an added bonus. But winning it all in their first year?

If you said, “Inconceivable!” you, like Vizzini, are using that word, and it might not mean what you think it does.

And there’s your obscure 1980s film reference for the offseason.

Brian Schottenheimer will be a rookie head coach this fall for the Dallas Cowboys. Over the last 28 years, he has been an assistant coach in some capacity for nine NFL teams and two college teams.

The previous three years he was with the Cowboys, the last two serving as Mike McCarthy’s offensive coordinator.

The son of long-time NFL Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer, the Cowboys’ new leader has the pedigree, if not the experience.

But can that translate into quick success? Especially in the postseason where the Cowboys have struggled in the last three decades?

For now, he's last. He has never been a HC on any level and is the only one of the three to never have coached an NFL team to the playoffs.

He has a chance to be a good/very good HC. His teams need to win a lot of games and have some playoff success. Prove it to us, Schottenheimer.

Schotty is dead last until he wins at least one game as an NFL head coach. He hasn’t even coached an NFL game yet.

At this time I would have to put Dan Quinn and Nick Sirianni ahead of Shottenheimer and Brian Daboll slightly behind.
How can you put Schotty ahead of Daboll when Schotty hasn’t even coached an NFL game yet? Daboll has gotten the Giants to the playoffs once and has a playoff win on his resume as an HC. He accomplished it with a shaky QB situation.

For now 3rd.
Come January, 1st
How can you put Schotty ahead of Daboll? Daboll has 18 wins as an NFL head coach and had a winning record his first season. He also has a playoff win on his resume. What has Schotty done as an HC? He’s never even been an HC at any level.

Team potential, that is the only reason.

1. Nick
2. Quinn
3. Daboll
4. Shotty

I think Shotty has a chance to surpass Daboll this year but we will see.

This would be really easy to do and probably was unnecessary to make a post about it it's pretty obvious but here's the thing let's go deeper..

At one time Nick Serianni was an unknown just like Brian Schottenheimer actually in my opinion he had a lot smaller resume it was a head scratcher why they signed this guy, AND early on, they were thinking about getting rid of him, and instead they loaded him up with talent, it was hard to lose with that talent.

And daboll, I know he had a decent resume as a coordinator I believe he came from New England I don't remember but did he really have any business being a head coach I mean isn't the proof already in front of us that how is he still at his job?

If you look around the NFL also Dan Campbell is a good place to start, he really what didn't do much before he got a head coaching job now he's doing pretty well but you know what they didn't give up on him after year one he had a horrible 1st year.... But what did they do load him up with gobs and gobs of talent I am curious to see how he reacts losing about 5 coaches below him that he's had the last few years and some talent gone...

I mean seriously nobody has a reason to think that Cohen who I never heard his name until he got the head coaching job I realized he was a coordinator one year offensive coordinator with the Buccaneers and then he gets a head coaching job.hmmm.

So, Brian Schottenheimer has every bit of chance to do pretty well even though people say he wasn't on a radar for any head coaching job, well neither have a lot of coaches some of them have made it...

1. Sirianni (won it)
2. DQ (almost won it)
3. Daboll
4. Schott

Schott could easily be better than Daboll, but he's last til he proves something.

Daboll was an accomplished OC before he got the job. Giants roster is trash. You know Shotty has been a clown his whole career right?

I wanted Schott fired when they fired MM. So there's that. He might also be way worse than Daboll.. we'll find out soon enough.

How can anybody realistically rank Shotty ahead of ANY NFL coach? He has not coached a single game at the NFL level; the only thing he has done as a HC is put a ping pong table in the locker room. Amazing.
