Last year I was devastated after the loss in Seattle, but I tempered my sadness with the fact that we had found our franchise QB, Romo and T.O. will have a full season together, things were looking better, yadda yadda.
But after the loss tonight all I can do is scratch my head, because I'm simply dumbfounded at this teams lack of urgency and execution. It's very easy to say Crayton cost us the game, he dropped the pass which led to the punt return to set up the score, etc etc. Crayton still made plays tonight and kept drives alive, but gets singled out by the one drop. You can go ahead and grill him for stopping on the route with 23 seconds left, however. Out of 4 or 5 failed offensive plays, there are still 50-60 other plays the team didn't take advantage of. It's easy to single out 2-3 plays when trying to place blame. Tonight the offense just seemed completely out of sync, and I hate to say it but I think the prolonged break since the Skins game and Wade's cupcake approach affected their preparation.
At the risk of sounding cliche, I still think Romo should not have gone to Mexico the week before playing the biggest Cowboy game in the last 12 years, and one that will define his future. I know Romo has said he was prepared as ever and people are going to think what they want, but I'd like someone to tell Romo this: Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman weren't in Cabo drinking margaritas the week before a playoff game.
The defense wasn't horrible. They only gave up 21 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Giving up only 7 points in the second half of any football game is a good day. Both Ware and Ellis made huge plays all day, Newman was Newman, but if Reeves is still wearing the Star on his head next season someone needs to be fired.
