This might be odd because its a thread about Joe Montana, an ex-49er. But I was just curious as to how one of the best players to ever touch a football goes about dissappearing off the face of the earth, while other lesser players get huge ESPN contracts to analyize/broadcast games?

He doesn't want to be around football anymore, he'd rather be with his family he's done interviews where he said he missed too much time with them when he was playing. For example when he missed the Super Bowl 40 ceremony celebrating SB MVP's to go to his son's basketball game.

Joe Montana?? I think you mean Joe Montainya.........
that Rey Maualuga is the best linebacker i've seen since Joe Montainya....

he's spending alot of time watching his kid play QB, his, Michael Jordan's, and Wayne Gretzy's sons all play on the same high school team

I remember that they tried to prop him up with an analyst career, but it turned out he can't put two words together coherently. It was a story that got spun and poo-pooed under the table, because they didn't want to embarrass him. I don't think he lasted one season in the booth. You'd think that the folks who hired him (I think it was NBC) would've done a little leg-work before allowing him to look so foolish.

Also, he's got a major problem with either his neck or his back, maybe his knees too. He's pretty shot-out physically. I'm almost sure it's his neck and he has to turn his whole body (ala Batman before the new headset) to look around.

Too bad for the guy. Even though he was a big part of that Niner thing (and I detest the Niners), I never disliked him, Roger Craig or Ronnie Lot. The rest of them, I got no use for. Including the ultimate prima donna Jerry Rice.

Not Jordan's son but Will Smith's son, Wil Smith son plays WR......

Not everyone is made for TV, Elway is another, I'm sure if he said he wanted to join ESPN, NBC, or CBS they would hire him without an interview......Some people just don't need the limelife after living in it for so long.

I would imagine one just gets tired of people fawning all over them and don't want to be around them anymore.

From what I understand he's had no interest in being in the spotlight anymore and enjoys being able to spend time with his family and not miss any of his kids sporting events and such anymore.

He already gives back to the game off football by simply helping his son at the QB position. I imagine that's enough for him. Plus I do believe he probably has life long issues with his neck and back from the injuries he sustained during his last few years in San Fran.

I'm trying to think of why I could give a rats *** where Joe Montana is but, I just can't come up with anything. Miss him like a hole in the head................;)

Oh Sarge do you need a hug because The Catch still hurts you? :p

I always respected Joe Montana, but for some reason, Steve Young just really rubs me the wrong way, .... in an almost "I wish he would get hit by a bus" sort of way.
