I think at his size it wears him down as we saw as the season progressed.
Totally agree. I don't think the answer is to pack on muscle to sustain the position. I love the option of more snaps for our true DE and Micha playing more hybrid. But speaking of size, I rewatched the 49er game from last season, Zeke looked much more effective than this season. The difference? Zeke has obviously bulked up this year which I think has reduced his quickness and speed.

Did you read what the OP posted?
I suspected that Micah Parsons had an injury he was battling during Green Bay week, and he did have a shoulder injury that he was fighting through, and still wasn't fully recovered from the groin injury in week 5. Those are the injuries that we knew about, who knows what else he had. I don't think it's time to rule out Parsons at LB.

Parsons at DE puts Sam Williams on the bench more often, and I think he needs to be out there, allowing for a pass rush that includes DLaw, Williams, Parsons and Wilson simultaneously. That's going to be incredibly hard to block.

How impressive is it, that a guy that mostly plays DE, also got some snaps at CB?
Has that EVER happened?

But….According to the above chart, when Parsons played LB for 47 snaps against GB, we got carved up for 207 yards rushing.

Exactly. Looks like we’re better off with him on the DL.

Parsons is a pass rusher.

At linebacker he is just a guy unless he’s blitzing.

It may wear him down but he’ll make more of a impact in less time as a defensive lineman than he would playing all game at linebacker.

Great chart here from Cowboys beat writer Jon Machota showing where Micah Parsons lined up for every snap this season, including the playoff game against TB. Some things that jump out to me:
  • Parsons lined up as a DLineman 802 of his 996 snaps, which is over 80% of the time.
  • Interesting stat- in games where Micah lined up as a LB with 20 or more snaps, we are 1-3.
  • In the GB loss, Micah played LB for 47 snaps, the most he had at LB all year. Not only did we lose, we gave up 207 yds rushing.
  • He’s got to be the only LB in the NFL with 8 snaps as a Corner.
  • Against Tampa, he had 64 snaps at DL, his most of the season, and he had an excellent game.
  • Based on these stats and what SF does in the running game, I expect MP to line up 80-90% on the DL.
It will be very interesting to see what Quinn does with #11 Sunday. It seems pretty clear based on this chart- the team is most effective when he lines up as a DL.

Incomplete chart at best. Should list his sack numbers and pressures for each game. Also should show whether he stayed in the spot on the snap or not. When he was playing very little LB in the second half of the season his sack numbers went way down I believe. Quinn got really stale with his playcalling and usage of Parsons. Last week, he mixed it up way more and it was much more successful. Putting Parsons at one spot for the whole game is not how to maximize him.
