You have 90 million to build a team.
You must have 4-5 million for your rookies.
You SHOULD keep 4-5 million going into the season to renogtiate or pick up a decent player if the oppurtunity comes up.
So now you are down to 80-82 million.
If you have a top 10 QB, WR, RB you are looking at about 5 mill for each.
Now you are down to 65-67.
If you have a top 10 DE, CB, TE you are looking at 3-4 million each.
now you are down to 53-57 million.
Your O line if you have done well will soak up around 10 million for the 5 starters-unless you have a top LT then add another 2-3 million
so now you are down to 40-45 million.
Your second WR, CB, FS or SS and maybe a top 10 DT will cost you 2-3 million each.
So now you are down to 31-35 million or so- maybe 37.
Spend 5 million on your O line depth.
26-30
another 5 million on the D line.
21-25
LB's- IF you do not have a top one- 6 million total.
15-19
And the rest of the team- say another 10 million total.
now you are down to 5-9 million.
ANd that is if you do not have any multi Pro Bowl possible future HOF's.
You then have to double the price on some of those players.
Theoretically you can spend 3 million for each of your starters and still have 24 mill left over (19 if not counting the rookie pool and 14 if not keeping some for extensions, etc).
Any way you look at it - having one of the games best costs so much now a days that no team that wants to be a COMPLETE team can afford more then one or two; and only one if we are talking QB's or WR's, and maybe RB's.
In todays money Emmitt in his prime would be looking at 10 mill a year- same with Irvin and maybe more with Aikman. 30 million a year on 3 players.
No way could we build a dynasty like the 90's team now. NE probably is the only way to go now.
