Suspended players can play in the preseason, so why didn't Demarcus Lawrence play?

He can get ready for the season now, and then just stay in shape in September.

Right? Is he hurt?

Absolutely no point in risking him in live action with a suspension upcoming. He is getting the work he needs and he probably will be better off just doing strength and conditioning considering he too is coming off back injury.

Suspended guys usually play in the preseason.

I think the back injury is the reason.

The Boys know he can play. What they do not know is if Irving, Russell, etc. are ready for big roles in the defense. Time to find out.

I hear you, but if he's healthy, he should play some. Don't want him walking on the field in October having not played a down.

They say he is killing it in practice and having great reps with Tyron. I don't really see a need to risk him. Preseason play now isn't going to help him while he sits for 4 weeks.

I agree but having a suitable replacement to start the season should be the priority. I think he will start when all the starters play later this month.

He'd likely have sat anyway. We sat Tony and Witten - Dez was slated to sit but talked his way onto the field. That's several of the top offensive guys sitting (not due to injury). Now look to the D. Who are our best players? Lee.. sat. Lawrence is likely our next best defensive player. Sat.

The team seemed to hold out most of the guys who were coming off injury and a few that they didn't want to risk. I think they were strategic about it in several cases, including this one since by not playing Lawrence if gave them a chance to look at Russell and Irving as starters.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a series in this one, but they might want to look at all of the other starting end candidates instead and save Lawrence for a series or two in the third preseason game.

I thought the coaches used a good strategy for this game.

Don't play Romo, give Dak a chance to run with the starters.

Don't play Smith (stinger), give Green a chance to run with the starters.

Don't play Witten, give Swaim a chance to show if he might be worth keeping.

Surprised they played Dez, but they probably wanted to in order to see what Dak could do with such a target.

Keeping Lee out as a healthy scratch allowed them to look at some of the backup linebackers as well.

What back injury? I thought that was Crawford.

DLaw was a full participant at the Wednesday practice I attended.

I was responding to someone else mentioning his back. Didn't he have something with his back in the offseason?

Apparently he had a bad back Injury. That's another rEason I wanted a legit DE brought in. What if his back acts up during the season?

Yep, offseason back surgery. Won't play for first four weeks. No reason to subject him to a game if not needed. He may get a little work but I wouldn't expect much.
