Maybe I missed it, but I didn't really notice us run the zone stretch last night, which was sort of a bread & butter play over the past two seasons. I saw a lot of pulling by the interior line and some wham plays, but didn't see the ultimate zone play very much. Any thoughts? I can think of a few reasons, not sure what they are:

  • No good reason, just didn't call it
  • Callahan no longer here
  • It was a strength of Murray but not of Gus the Bus
  • They didn't want to run it with the tackles we had in
  • A change in philosophy
  • It hasn't been installed yet

Yeah, I noticed it, too. Maybe the subs weren't ready for that yet; was surprised at the drop off in performance with the change in OL personnel.
Shows you how good our starters are, and how important their chemistry is.

Probably because Gus the Bus was the RB. It takes time for RBs to learn to play in that scheme.

If anything changes with Pollack replacing Callahan, the expectation would be for more zone and less man type blocking.
