Where would Tyron go this year?

Given that this draft is light on skill positions, OT's will go early as many project. We picked Tyron up at #9 in 2011 and he was the first lineman to go. How does he stack up against this years premium tackle prospects, Joeckel, Fisher, and Johnson? Where might he go if he were in this years draft?

I would say Tyron rates on par with Joeckel and Fisher and rates ahead of Johnson.

So I would say top 5 pick easy.

He would go #1.

Look at it like this. He's been in the NFL for 2 years already and he's still younger than Lane Johnson, one month older than Fisher, and just a year older than Joeckel.

His upside coming out of the draft was higher than all 3 of these guys, and still is.

Psh Fisher, and most likely Joeckel, would not go ahead of Tyron. Fisher is coming from Central Michigan and still needs to gain quite some strength. Tyron was a freak coming out of SC at 20 years old. Joeckel and Fisher lack elite athleticism. Maybe they are more developed coming into the draft, but Smith has the upside over all of them.

Wouldn't be surprised to see KC trade down from #1. Maybe the Bills or Raiders decide to hop the Jags and get Geno; and the Chiefs can reclaim some of the picks they traded away to get Smith.

Probably around the 1st -5th lineman taken. Really hard to tell.

Tyron was a right tackle only at the college level. I would say he would have been drafted 3-5.

Tyron would probably be the 4th tackle taken.

Primarily because he never played the left side. Jockel, Fisher and Lane all did. Lane is actually a slightly better athlete than Tyron and some forget that year, Tyron was coming off a knee injury, which caused him to skip a lot of the combine workouts.

Considering he has played in the NFL and against Andy Reid, KC would definitely take him over Joeckel and Fisher. :p:

Yeah, but for Tyron, his year should be this next year. I think you give him every opportunity at left tackle. You don't want to ruin his career and Tyron Smith is a guy I'm willing to deal with a few mistakes here and there for what I think he'll eventually bring to the table. Good analogy, though, funkytown--very observant.

Given his age, size, strength, length, hand size and athleticism I would argue that he should be #1 since he probably still has the highest celing but also has the highest floor since we already know he can hack LT and play okay (by the end of last year) and can be an All-Pro RT based on his rookie year play. I think he probably takes another major step this year now that the footwork should be deeper ingrained into his muscle memory.

I think everyone here would be shocked if you went item by item with him compared to others in this draft class. Then look at his age and realize he is just middle of the pack at 22.

We probably should have drafted JJ Watt since elite pass rushers are more valuable than elite LTs. I still can't believe the rest of the league was asleep on Watt when he has the athleticism of a DB and the strength of a NT combined with a great motor, has high character and played at a major college program where we had inside sources. I'm still not upset about drafting Tyron as we would have a gaping hole there if we had not chosen him

For those that like Joeckel, he would be 4th. For me, he would be 3rd.

I would rate him as follows:

1. Fisher
2. Johnson
3. Smith

Tyron was stronger than all 3 and more athletic than Joeckel and Fisher.

Tyron has the longest arms and biggest hands.

In terms of measureables, Lane Johnson had a freak forty time, but his and Tyron's 10-yard split were very similar:

10-yard split:
Lane Johnson: 1.68
Tyron Smith: 1.69

FYI - I think that Joeckel is a little overrated. He holds as much as any college OL that I've watched this year. If he were drafted by the Steelers he would never get penalized, but if drafted by Dallas, it would be a penalty on every play.

Tyron Smith would be rated #3 in my opinion. He was the #1 OT because he had the best LT skills by far. This year there are two guys with the skills who have actually played LT, so I think the fact that Smith had never played on the left side would give teams pause.

He would slide down beneath 1-2 of these OTs because he'd be a projection to the left side as a rookie.

He would be bunched in there with the top 3 OTs, so would be anywhere from the 1st to 4th OT taken and would go anywhere from the 1st overall to 13th pick.

1.Joeckel
2. Tyron
3. Fisher
4. Johnson

I think Tyron and Johnson have the same upside (and the most). I think Joeckel is the most NFL ready, and I think Fisher will make a quality starter at LT.

If I was KC, I'd still take Joeckel, safer bet.

I think KC will take Fisher. Joeckle works to.
But with all of those guys, it would just be a matter of preference.
The upside to Johnson is amazing, but he needs some work still.

exactly, he's like 22 now going into his third year, had he stayed in college till now, he'd go #1 easily.

I just don't see elite from t smith . I've seen him get destroyed by peppers And Pierre Paul . Smith looks like he has a small upper body . He is solid nothing more nothing less .
