Pre snap motion gets a ton of talk, but I think its pretty overrated. Not to say that it can't be a very good asset to an offense, but a lot of really good QBs dont use a lot of pre snap motion. I know Payton Manning was notorious for hating pre snap motion. You may have a defense in cover 2, motion a man out to the slot, and now they've changed to cover 3 right before the snap happens. If you run a lot of option routes like the Cowboys do it pre snap motion can create a lot of miscommunication issues which result in turnovers.i think just the opposite ...i think it's boring becuz of the current coaches on staff.
- and it starts with McCarthy.
- We don't pre snap or shift the ball around to roll opposing defensive alignment and coverages to create lanes, openings
- we're horrid at run scheme .. we won't involed the RBs in pass game ... we dunno how to scheme our backs to fit their skill set.
- the OL run scheme is dreadful. it's nuthin like what we are seeing in Niners, Miami, Buffalo,..Detroit
- we have 4.3 speed WRs but we dunno how to scheme and maximize that vertical speed. ...
- we use Cooks like a possession guy - not like the vertical splash guy we traded for him to be ..
- Saints and Shanhan offense seems geared to stretch the offense both in run game and pass game ... while we scheme more for
ball control possession than splash plays ...
Same rhythm, same structure that we started out last year in in first half of 2023 ....Offensively that's on McCarthy
I'm with you on the run game. My bigger concern is I just dont think the RBs on this roster are more than rotational pieces and not much of a threat, but its kind of a chicken or the egg scenario where you can argue scheme vs talent and I'm not sure either is wrong. Personally I'm a fan of smaller more athletic OL who you can be more creative in running the football and get those guys pulling, but the Cowboys have opted to go more of the power football approach so itll be tough to change too much.
We do have guys with excellent speed, but I'm not sure what you do with them. Teams seem to be fine playing two deep safeties with one always bracketing Lamb. That makes it tough to use that speed to stretch the field with a defender already deep. Cooks has been mostly valuable underneath going back to last year, and Turpin doesnt seem to be much of a threat. This is my issue with the WR group is that they are all pretty much vertical threats outside of Lamb. Even a guy like Tolbert runs north and south better than east/west, hes just more of a go up and get the ball player than he is a burner like Cooks.
Overall I'm not sure that you're wrong, I just dont think he has the guys to play that Shannahan type of ball on offense. I think another receiver who could come in and take over for Cooks as the #2 would be huge for what this offense can do. You look around the league and most really good offenses have two receivers that defenses have to account for.
