Has Ken Hamlin made any plays worth mentioning in practice?

Cuz, I can't remember reading anything of significance about his play in TC.

All I've been reading about is how our other DB's are doing....or so it seems.

Check the Daily zone later and I'll post a couple things I saw earlier.

Seems I'd already posted one...and there's this JJT blog. From some comments Wade has said, he and Barber both have benefited from participating in the offseason program

Ken Hamlin should be ready to play better than he did last season

The Cowboys expect a lot more from safety Ken Hamlin than they received last year, and they're poised to get it.

Hamlin, a Pro Bowl player in 2007, struggled last season and never found a rhythm. He missed all of the off-season mini-camps and OTAs in a contract dispute before signing a six-year deal worth $39 million.

But he struggled with the defensive concepts of new secondary coach Dave Campo, in part, because of his close relationship with secondary coach Todd Bowles, who left for Miami. He also spent considerable time trying to make sure everyone in the secondary was lined up properly.

You could make the argument that he spent so much time worrying about everyone else's job that his own play suffered. Well, he participated in all the off-season activities this year and he's off to a strong start in camp. The Cowboys like the way he's playing the run and expect him to be a play-maker in the secondary again.

I am willing to give him a SMALL mulligan for last year given that he had 3 separate starters opposite him and they were all worth at best half a dog turd. And he had to keep an eye on 2 rookies that were playing most of the time.

I am pretty skeptical about K Hamlin. I never thought he was as good as people were saying in 2007, and he was dreadful last yr. Seattle made little (if any) effort to keep him.

Unless he improves significantly over last yr, I doubt he's here in 2010. It's be a big bonus for us if he can at least be "average" this yr, because he was awful last yr.

I don't think many Seattle fans were heartbroken to see him go.

He was looking for a payday, and thats about it, IMO.

I say it every time someone wants to knock down Ken Hamlin - FS is a very difficult position to play all by yourself without any SS help and like you said, keeping an eye on 2 rookies and making sure everyone is lined up where they're supposed to be.

Seattle didn't want to keep him because he came off of a head injury. Get your facts together. And you don't sign someone to a $30M+ deal and dump them 1 season later. The cap hit would be ridiculous.

Ken has exactly 0 competition for his job this year, he could lay on the ground and make dirt angels all camp and still be the starter day 1.

The only Hamlin I keep hearing about is the ever annoying nickname "Hamlin2" some reporters give to Mike Hamlin.

The head injury was in 2005, he started all 16 games the following season (2006). So maybe you should get your facts together. I also recall them saying one of the reasons they didnt make much effort to resign him was because they were disappointed in his coverage skills.

As for releasing him, I'm not the first person who has thought it might happen. There's been at least a couple of articles about it. He'd have played 3 seasons of his deal, so it wouldnt be a horrendous cap hit.

I dont care what kind of spin someone wants to use, but when your a FS and start 16 games on a team that leads the league in sacks, and you manage to get one pick and two passes defensed (and tackle like crap) for the entire season, you had a putrid yr.

And I don't care much for those that were always down on him and frankly refuse to look at the situation. He did well in 2007= not great but well. Your refusal to acknowledge that pretty much disqualifies anything else you have to say.

The Hamlin situation is why I don't like these one year contracts. Someone has a big year and Jerry opens up the check book. I would prefer a 2 year deal like we had w/ Tank. Even if it is for more yearly money, we can really get a good evaluation of the guy. Watch Jerry overpay for Sensabaugh this year.

I call BS. When you're on the field, you have to worry about your position once the play starts. You can't be worrying about others after the snap. I think the answer to last year was two-fold. One, the, we had lots of injuries last year and that forces the Cowboys to over compensate with their better players. Sometimes giving them more than they can handle. Secondly, I think he relaxed a bit since he got his contract.

Now, I don't think his poor play had anything to do with Campo coming in and changing the defense as the change from switching teams damn sure didn't seem to affect him his first year in Dallas considering he made the Pro Bowl in that *new* defense.

I thought he was a very good player for us 2007.

In 2008, the guy was just atrocious. As you said, if he doesn't rebound this season, he may be looking for a new team in 2010.
