Where's this team at with this roster?

Coaching makes a difference. No doubt about that. Since all three teams you indicated have similar number of draft picks on their roster the difference in talent may be players they did not draft. Or the better team(s) just draft better.
Quite often, drafting better doesn't mean drafting players that are more talented overall.

Sometimes it means drafting the players that are better fits for the type of team you are building.

Players are not interchangeable parts but I doubt that Jerry Jones realizes this.

RB - Worst group on the team. I think they need to draft a starter capable of being a 20 touch bell cow.
Absolutely! The problem I see happening is the Bears will take Jeanty and Hampton isn't worthy of the 12th pick. Does Jerry take that kid McMillian who might see 6 touches a game or does he take Hampton who would see 25 touches a game. Hampton makes the team more run capable and takes the ball out of Daks hands. McMillian puts the ball in Daks hands more And supposedly they are trying to get away from that.

Last season the Cowboys roster included ten 1st round, ten 2nd round and ten 3rd round picks

The Eagles roster had twelve 1st round, ten 2nd round and eight third round picks.

Washington had ten 1st round, nine 2nd round and eight 3rd round picks.

The difference hasn't been with the talent level of the teams. The difference is the quality of management and coaching.

The real difference is the Cowboys inability to construct a cohesive team with the proper priorities and focus.

For three decades the Cowboys management has demonstrated that they don't even know where to begin.
This is so true!

So where is everyone on this roster? Dumpster diving in FA, couple trades, draft picks, still some FAs worth a look. From now to July what do you guys think we need to field a competitive team? Here is where I am…

OL - Not sold on the tackles. I think they need to still grab a starting caliber OT. I'm not sold either. Steele in the passing game is a concern but he was solid in run blocking. I think if he isn't released making him a June 1 cut doesn't break my heart then it becomes necessary to take a T earlier than I would like. Putting Guyton over at RT wouldn't make me mad either but they wont. Heck sliding steel inside wouldn't anger me either
WR - Weak group. Imagine if Lamb was hurt. I think they need a strong #2 guy. This is priority 1 or at very least 2 IMO. We saw in playoffs when Pollard went down and CeeDee was blanketed just how ineffective the offense is against a good defense.

RB - Worst group on the team. I think they need to draft a starter capable of being a 20 touch bell cow. Priority 1A or 1B needs to be taken with first or second pick. The FA pick ups don't exactly do it for me.

DL - Fowler helps but they need a major talent upgrade inside and out. I think they still need 2 starting quality players to play DT and DE. Not sure what they think of Kneeland and Williams but it wouldnt upset me if this was a pick early either. In terms of DT with the Osa signing and Mazi being a 1st rounder I think the cowboys fel they are set but a mid round pick would be ok as well.

LB - If Overshown is back I am good but if not I still think they need a solid rotational guy. This is where Im at we have too many needs on the teams and this takes less priority

CBs - With or without Diggs this needs to be a major focus. Do they lock up Bland? This will be a major need next season and you can never have enough good CBs so I think this is a major need. I really hope Carson gets better and Bland gets locked up but we could upgrade here as well. Diggs to me is overpriced and we've probably seen his best

S - Close one. Major need next season but set for now. I think they need to focus on the other areas of need but if they
picked up another quality S I wouldn’t mind. Another need but not as high as the others. If we could manage a bit more pressure up front perhaps these guys perform better

Ultimately this dont get fixed this year there are too many weak spots. If we hit on our first 3 picks that improves dramatically. If we can pull of a trade down and grab another pick then were GOLDEN. See what I did there?

Doesn't mean a thing to me. It will change.
A lot of things can happen, and will happen.

I am not expecting a miracle. But I am not going to be miserable and think doom and gloom constantly either.
When it comes to the Cowboys, placing expectations always leads to disappointment.

Before I start I'll preface this with it's kind of early to make any predictions.
That said the one thing we can hang our hat on is the kicking game and special teams we're in pretty good shape there.

After that there's a lot of question marks.
How does dak come back from his injury is he 100% we hope so.

I got the gut feeling the offensive line is going to be somewhat improved this year just the fact that our young guys we drafted last year will have another year under their belt and an off season of training.

We should have picked up a number two wide receiver in free agency not a lot to pick from in this draft and it needs to be addressed.

We absolutely need to draft a running back our running back room is putrid.

I think we're good at tight end

I also think with Sam Williams kneeland Fowler and Micah we should have enough pass rushers.

The defensive tackle position must be fixed we need to be able to stop the run.

Linebacker situation is another bit of a question mark as to how O will rebound from his injury

The secondary I believe will be serviceable not necessarily the big play group that it was at one time but competitive.

Well we seem to have pillaged all the first round busts from every team so we will have to see if maybe a couple of them pan out which will be on our coaching staff to see if they can develop some of these guys another huge question mark our coaching staff they could make or break us this season if they can develop more than a few of these guys it could be a very pleasant surprise.
If the coaching staff fails this is a five win season.

I hate to disagree. its not about which round they were from. its which rounds should they have been drafted. was Mazi really a 1st round talent? he was drafted in the first round, but clearly playes like a 5th rounder. was Schoonmaker a 2nd round talent? not really. everyone said he was over drafted. how about Guyton? who struggled at LT, having played RT in college and didn't make the transition.

its obvious more 1st rounders will make the team than 6th. they are just physically more talented or produced more in college etc. so its natural to see that across the NFL actually.

but its how you evaluate the talent and if they are truly talented for the round they got picked. the past two years have been bad drafts for cowboys. you have two bad drafts in a row and your team is going to suffer. specially for a team that refuses to spend in outside FA to fill gaps.

I wouldn't take hampton with the 12th pick. I would trade down. this is a deep RB draft, meaning, you can trade down or take one in 2nd or 3rd and there is a slight difference between the players. on the other hand outside of top 3 WRs, there is a big drop in the WR group and you end up with a tolbert in a round 2 or round 3....its a thin WR class.

McMillian may only get 6 touches. that's actually pretty good if it happens to a Rookie WR. that would translate to 102 catches if it happens.... but his presence would help CD and other WRs, because he would demand attention. its not just about the touches, its what a player can do and how the defense has to adjust to the offense and the opportunities created for other players as a result.

McMillian and lets say Judkins (kid from ohio) would make this team much better than Hampton and another WR like tolbert, given our current WR out of CD are almost indistinguishable and one can replace other without much improvement.

Given the state of the roster I think they need to hit on 3/4 picks plus still grab a FA or 2.

What do you guys think?
I think we’re going after size and physicality. Which is a good thing overall.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you on the majority of this. This season will sadly be considered a success if we are the 3rd best team in the NFCE at the end of the year.

Issue 1 is Philly and Wash are good.
9-win talent isn't likely to get in the playoffs in this division.

QB: Fine plus. B+. Dak, Milton, Grier is a top 12 group. Dak's health drives ceiling but he's led many top 5 offenses.
RB: OK. C. Average group lacking a bell cow but hosting 3 guys who are NFL caliber part-timers.
WR: OK. C. CeeDee is elite, but depth is very questionable. Turpin and Tolbert development last year helps but lack a reasonable WR2.
TE: Not good. D. Need better play and healthier guys. 1 starting level guy who battles injuries and a major bust at TE2. Oof.
OL: Above Average. B-. Need an LT and that is the most important spot on the line. Guyton has to take major leap or they have to move Tyler Smith. Interior is young, pretty good and Steele bounced back at end of year when we had all turned off the TV.

DE: Fine, B. Still good a group but could use 1 more rusher to develop after major attrition.
DT: Not good. D. Osa is a good 3T but everyone else is replacement level and NT1 simply isn't good enough.
CB: OK. C. Healthy a salty unit but can't stay healthy. Battled and survive. Lost a great DB coach.
S: OK. C. Decent veteran Safety depth but no true difference makers here.
LB: Not good. D. Lack of health and depth.

Good News: Draft will help because its be hard to miss given all these needs.
Bad News: Gonna be hard to win 10 games.
Gooder News: Expectations are low so just making playoffs would be meaningful.
Badder News: We are gonna hear Jerry talk a lot before nay football is played.

This season they probably won't make any serious push. If they have a successful draft in 2 weeks, another next season, and can keep some sort of consistency at the DC job (i.e. the same DC 2 years in a row) we'll see.

I like the FAs they signed mostly younger players with upside. Zack Baun and Mekhi Becton weren't high priced signings either but the Eagles hit on them and maximized their abilities.

Don't agree. There's a huge dropoff after Jeanty and Hampton.

It's actually the opposite. WR group is weak up at that top, but very deep.

Did I miss something do we really need to discuss what the roster looks like right now 'cause do we have a game Sunday like am I missing something or are we gearing up for a game next week or two weeks or three weeks or five months oh that's right it's five months can we talk about the roster at least when it gets to training camp this is pre draft too soon talk about the roster... I don't think there's many teams out there that are ready for a game if the if it started Sunday not because of not in game shape I don't think their roster is fully made either..
Absolutely, you missed punctuation and coherency.
