About 4-5 games into the season, there was discussion on this board about which of our players who due to become FAs after this season need to be resigned before they can hit FA. At the time, most of us thought we should wait until further in the season to see if these players continue/or improve their play as the season progressed.
Don't recall all those players, but C Andre Gurode and RT Marc Colombo were 2 of them. I also think we need keep WR Crayton as our #3 but since he's a RFA we should be able keep him unless he receives a ridiculous offer. Do you think both Gurode & Colombo have played well enough so Cowboys should resign them--both of them signed 1 year deals which end after 06 season.
I'm going on record saying that I think both should be kept. Gurode surprising beat out Johnson for center job and as result we've had lot less pressure coming up the middle; that was important with Bledsoe but also is a help for Romo. Similarly Gurode will be coming off his first full year as a starting RT. Both are about 27 & should even get better in their 2nd years w/the more experience they've gained plus another year in our offseason conditioning weight program.
I think if our offers are within the range of their starting positions (but neither are pro bowlers), we should be able get them back. I think Colombo will be very easy to resign cause he's very grateful to Parcells for signing him to 2 year deal (Nov 05-end of 06 season) which allowed him to fully recover from his 02 knee injury w/o demanding he produce in late 05 but indeed he was told to get better physically so he can compete in 06. Also think Gurode will resign cause we threw more money then he could have gotten anywhere else cause Parcells had faith in him if Gurode could overcome being distracted on the field/doing the game.
