Which Jerry (Jones or Reese) would reject a Dez Bryant-Hakeem Nick trade?

This is a close one. I like both of these players, and they've been similarly successful in the NFL for where they are in their respective careers. I'd go with Dez because I still think he's got a lot further to go before he's the player he's eventually going to be in this league. But this is the year he needs to show the big jump.

I don't think there is anything overwhelming there for sure.

Having said that, Nicks has averaged 1010 yards per season over his 3 years in the league which, rightly or wrongly, is considered something of a barometer for NFL wide receiver success.

Nicks to this point is the better receiver with the stats to back it up. Period.

Who has the higher ceiling and ultimately the better career remains to be seen.

To play devil's advocate -- could it be that Eli is able to complete more passes because his WRs are getting open more consistently?

A few weeks back somebody posted a video of all of Tony Romo's 2011 TD passes and one thing that struck me as a bit surprising is that in that video Dez Bryant was never wide open -- he always had a CB blanketing him. Keep in mind he was still able to catch a lot of TDs.

My point is, Dez doesn't <seem> open very often. His catches often seem to occur because of his great hands, extended reach, and height as opposed to him finding holes in the defense or route routing.

I'm hoping this offseason Dez finally masters the art of route running and learned how to get himself open on a consistent basis.

If you look at last years WR Nicks as in the top 10 for yards over 40 plays tied with Laurant Robinson of the Boys.

There was some really good WR play last year but what is Crazy is how many TE where in the top 10 in Rec (3) yards (2) TDs (2)

That is just the top 10 the NFL passing game has changed a lot over the years

If he gets the numbers you want from him it's going to come at the expense of Witten and/or Austin.

Both GMs would be very likely to stick with what they have in WRs Bryant and Nicks. Dallas and NY are both committed to their guys and both players are familiar with their offensive systems. It'd likely be considered to be a pointless trade, since both are major contributors to their team's offensive success.

I'm not sure about that. I think it's still an open question whether Dallas would be willing to extend Dez. The guy has phenomenal talent, but he's a huge question mark for a lot of reasons. Nicks is a comparable player right now (that might not be the case after this season), but he's got his head screwed on tight as far as I can tell. He's a safer long-term bet, I don't think there's any doubt about that.
