Which New Additions Can Help vs the Run?

I think the most profound addition will be a year of experience for Guyton and Beebe. I believe that both will be greatly improved, technically.

I believe that a year of NFL conditioning will have made then stronger with increased stamina.

I think that they will contribute to a more cohesive unit, more used to the guys around them and with a better understanding of what their teammates ae going to do under certain circumstances. This should make them more efficient.

When we are talking about improvement in this way from the O-line, it has a "trickle-down" effect of improving every other aspect of the team, particularly the running game.

If the Cowboys had selected a RB during the first two days of the draft then I might have said the greatest improvement was the quality of the new RBs. It might still be but we won't know until the season is underway.

However, as it stands today, I think the greatest addition to the team is last year's experience obtained by our young O-linemen.

And really, I think they improved every aspect of the running game from multiple, competitive RB's to drafting Booker to their new O-line coach. We will see.
His question was about stopping the run on defense but I can agree if we were talking about offense here but we're not yes our offense hasn't improved run game not necessarily looked at as having an elite three down back but you don't need that if you can improve on every other level and have the right mix.....

Yes, but as you said, he's s talking about how establishing a run game can also help the run defense.

Oops!

We were 28th, I believe, in run defense last year. With new additions to the team, which players do you think will help against the run?

I know Sanborn is pretty good against the run. I think Toia might help but may also need time to develop. And Turner is also pretty solid at run defense, although not much of a pass rusher.

Am I missing anyone? Are there any players who you think will step up in the run defense this year?
Since when has Payton Turner ever been good vs the run?
He had a Pff score of 40 vs the run last year and probably didn’t deserve that.
Even in his only season that he didn’t get injured he could only garner a little over 300 snaps in a 5 man rotation mostly relieving a rapidly aging and disappearing Cam Jordan.
Fans here in Louisiana decided he was useless 2 seasons ago and are mostly right. He’s about as soft as a 275 lb strong side DE can get. He’s the Chaz Green of strong side ends… first time he gets hit in the mouth he’s gonna fold his tent for day!

Hopefully Toia.
Hopefully.
Like fingers and toes crossed.

2 returning fully healthy guys for me would be Kneeland at the first level and of course Overshown, at the second.
That's a big ask considering the severity of Overshown's injury and pushing him too fast before he's fully ready.

But I'm just not a big believer in any of the other FA jag lbs or linemen.

Hopefully Eberflus can coach 'em up.
But then again, hope is not a strategy.

They seem to feel like Solomon Thomas, Mazi and Toia are the answers to that question. Hope they are right.

I feel like Thomas is there for the Locker/DL line leadership that brings consistent effort....Hopefully Mazi steps up and toia is just a big road block that can't be moved.

He does his part in this regard well enough. I think people are too low on Mazi because he isn't flashy. But I've looked into this and some of the criticism is unwarranted.
he is only average; nothing more. He is not a difference maker and shows no signs of being one
