Which offensive tackle would you choose?

Since it appears they are finally serious about a replacement for Tyron. Hell, all three are better than cramming Tyler into the position but I'd much rather sign Fisher for a couple of years. This would give some flexibility with Tyler next season and move on from Tyron.

  • Jason Peters
  • Eric Fisher
  • Isaiah Wynn

Regardless I don't think any of them will come in and be able to get up to speed with the playback by week 1 - was listening to the gbag podcast this am and sounds like no matter what Smith is going to start that first game at LT and whomever is brought in will take some time to come up to speed unless another injury forces them into action

Agree but it's scary to think Jerry is actually serious about Tyron returning. I can only hope he knows he's done but just showing respect for a future HOFer until they HAVE to make a decision.

Jason Peters. He’s a mauler with attitude. He did give up 6 sakes last year, but I wonder if that was the QB holding it too long on a few???

I could get conditioning issues, but we are talking about vets with near or over 10 years experience with Peters and Fisher. They won't need that long to get the playbook down. Hate to over simplify it, but it's OL play, not a WR or TE or RB learning a playbook. It's either you run block or pass block. Certain blocking assignments are called out by Biadasz based off what the defense is showing presnap.
And we are talking about Tyler Smith, a raw LT from Tulsa who had issues last year with holding. He didn't get any snaps in pads at Left Tackle this training camp. I much rather roll with a 20 year vet with 1 week of practice than a rookie with maybe 2 weeks of practice at the position.

Peters. Better and cheaper than the other two. No contest for me.

I think Peters will be better than Fisher but both make sense because we won't need them next year. Wynn is more of a long term solution if you think he can play and stay healthy.

The Cowboys are looking for a short term solution for minimal investment.

yeah Hawk, i frankly think it is just delirious wishful thinking or, best case, marketing spin to keep the fanbase calm. I hate to say it but i think Tyron's year is done and possibly either his career or at the least his time in Dallas. Yes he is on a cap friendly deal but at some point they are going to have to cut ties and this might just be that point (after this season) with the future LT on the roster

I get it and obviously i have no knowledge of what type of shape the guy is in, if he can pickup the playbook that fast - and on the other side where Tyler Smith is out in his understanding on the LT role vs the guard role. I will obviously trust the coaching staff but my point was it sounds like they want to see what they have at LT in Smith and not try to force whom they sign into the role for game one....might crash and burn, might be OK, might be better than OK, who the heck knows.

All i know is i would rather have 1 or 2 more vet OL signed to shore up the holes and then go from there.

I would go with Eric Fisher.

Jason Peters has managed 1 full season since his age 34 year. That’s why he’s not in Philadelphia anymore. He played 15 last year, but missed 24 games the previous 4 seasons combined (including playoffs).

Eric Fisher had a major injury and still started 15 games each of the last 2 years. He’s made the pro bowl 2 of the last 4 years. He’s a decade younger than Peters, and most importantly, he doesn’t have to be a 1 year rental. He could be your starting LT (or RT) for the next 4-5 seasons

trade for wynn if you rather have TS73 at LG hes more long term at LT replacement for TS77..but if you are looking for a patch a swing tackle to come in and rescue the line should it fall apart the first 3 games.. than Peters, hes knows the NFCE and the eagles.

He buys some time in case you wanna keep Tyler at guard or he needs more time to be an NFL starting LT.

The BEST move should have been done in April or May…but I digress…

Under current circumstances, between Peters, Eric Fisher, Wynn, LaRaven Clark (if still available)…just do something.

2 years ? Nope, not me.

I'd do what i can this very season at LT, especially if i feel Tyler is just not ready to crack it at LT.
As i fear he's being so rushed and unprepared for immediate LT.

1. The very next offseason he's gonna be prepped for long term starting LT, ..
2. Tyron either retires or he becomes cap casualty.
3. i'm going with the ongoing search for a new and improved starting LG. (very likely rookie per Stephen usual way)

If first rounder Tyler Smith is thought of as the heir apparent to Tyron Smith, i'm not waiting two more years for that, much less paying and carrying Eric Fisher's asking price

I would only need a Fisher, Peters or Wynn on a one year rental, emergency basis .this year only,. at the least.

And Matt Naggy is a crap coach. I didn't follow him, but he played for the Bears right? If so you had a rookie QB and an awful coach. Wait and see, Fields will be much improved this year.

It will be Tyler Smith week 1. Then Dallas will sign a veteran to take over at LT for the rest of the year.

Dallas needs to make the OL the top priority in next years draft.
