Only these five will be there. Sylvester Williams is the safest and best of the five but you can get probably 25-30. Ogletree is the most intriguing. For some reason Jerry is investigating T'eo hard. I would hate that pick. Dont think Jones is a fit. Too high for Fluker IMO.

Wow, go ahead and fill in 1-32 for me and don't have to worry or watch...

I go Ansah.

As of today we only have one pass rusher under contract and his shoulder is in a sling.

We need pass rushers. It's been that way for years. It's NO different then Oline help IMO.

This is a very deep 1st round, so I am excited to see what will happen, we should get a really good one that falls to us

First off, the only one's I would take at 18 are Richardson for sure, and maybe Johnson. Otherwise I trade back.

If I had to take one of them, the order of my preference from most to least:

Sheldon Richardson *About my first choice in the whole draft along with S Floyd.
.
Lane Johnson *Good player but not as good as his combine indicates.
C Patterson *Very good player but not an area of need for Dallas.
.
Sylvester Williams *A notch below Floyd and Richardson but still a very good 3 tech in Kiffin's defense.
DJ Fluker *A power player that would IMO shore up RT for good. Would really improve running game.
.
.
Ezekiel Ansah *Hit or miss player who scares me. Good enough physically that he might have a chance.
.
.
B Mingo *He would have to play Ware's WDE spot to be effective. Would be the future there and a spot rusher right away.
.
.
Alec Ogletree *There are better LB's for us in this draft, but he is talented... and risky.
.
.
.
.
.
Manti Te'o *will probably be a solid MLB, but I wouldn't take him in the first.
.
.
.
.
.
Jarvis Jones *Too risky medically. Would play Ware's spot eventually.

Lane Johnson or Richardson. I'd be happy with either.

Probably leaning towards Johnson.

I would go Lane Johnson if all other things were equal. It is a position of need as well as a high priority position that is expensive to replace in free agency and also makes Free expendable. It is a win/win/win proposition.

No on Ogletree due to the DWI stuff

No on Jarvis Jones due to the medical

Lane Johnson would be nice to slide in at Right tackle. But the guy was a tight end a few years ago, and QB before that. I'm not sure he's day 1 ready.

The choice is between Richardson and Ansah. Richardson fills a need right now, and Ansah fills a need if/when Spencer leaves.

Ansah is raw and has huge upside. The talent is there with Richardson but some question his motor.

I go with Sheldon Richardson. No way this guys slacks off with Kiffin and Marinelli around.

Surprised at the general aversion to Ogletree. What am I missing? I like this kid.

I like him a lot too but you can't be great at every position.. our linebacker corps is above average as is.. same cannot be said about our OL or DL.. not to mention he isnt the "Right Kinda Guy" and I highly doubt we would take a guy who just had a DUI just months after the Josh Brent thing.

I am thinking Cooper won't make it to 18, so if Richardson is available, he should be the guy.. We've all seen what Marinelli has done with Henry Melton, so I'd be excited to watch him help turn Richardson into a beast.

No on Patterson. 1st round WR is a need.

If we take a WR round 1, i'd rather trade down and take Tavon Austin. This guy is a match up nightmare. Whoever gets him will have a huge weapon.

This is a deep WR draft. The Cowboys need a slot guy to compete with Harris. Or a decent guy we can use on the outiside, and bring Austin in the slot.

Marquise Goodwin
Ryan Swope
Kenny Stills

Give me one of those guys 3rd/4th round. Although Goodwin will probably go earlier because of his speed.

I see OL, pass rusher, 1 tech, and S as the biggest problems. I'm not certain what we have at CB assuming Jenkins gone. I'm not really worried about the Sam.

I think its just that some people don't find OLB to be a pressing need.

I'd love to have him, but getting him in the first probably means missing out on either a DL/OL/S prospect....especially when there are guys available later who will provide similar production.

I get that, but maybe I'm a bit more pessimistic on getting playing time out of Carter and Lee. If we can get 20 total starts from the two of them, I'd call it a win.

In that world, Ogletree isn't just the SAM - admittedly a less important position in the Kiffin defense - but guy who could plug in several places.

Not my first choice, all considered, but I'd be happy with the pick.

On paper our linebackers are a phenomenal young group. The linebacker corps we went out there with for much of the season, however, was lousy, lousy, lousy. We can't pretend away injuries.

Who are you hoping falls to you with your other picks then?

the way i see it, we need to seriously upgrade at least 3 positions

OL
DL
safety

if at all possible, i would like to walk away from this draft having taken 3 starters in the first 3 rounds

we could go

cooper/sly williams/swearinger OR

richardson/best OL/swearinger OR

floyd/cyprien/schwenke and so on

so, who i draft in 2 and 3 depends on who i got in rd 1

in the ideal world, i would do this after i have already signed a REAL starting OG in FA

then in rounds 4-7 we go BPA to fill needs in areas like RB/LB, etc

Lane Johnson really impressed me when I watched the combine. I out him across from Smith and have my bookend tackles for the next decade.
