If all the wanted players--OL,DL, S are gone at 18, in a trade back which player would you select at say 24th? If you like, add your 2nd round pick.

I'm getting sold on Carradine. I would add him to those two above. Any of them would be a decent selection for us at that point in the draft.

Ideally we would have earned a 3rd rounder in that trade down scenario. The last "first rounder" should be off the board by that point in the draft as there are usually only 18-22 players that carry first round grades. So we would have effectively traded out of the "first round" and I'd want at least a 3rd round pick for doing so regardless of draft points.

I really do covet an extra pick this year as it is a deep draft that is quite weak at the top. I think there is a lot of depth where we are choosing and in the players we are interested in.

I would stay put 100% to pick Star, one of the top 3 OTs or Cooper if he falls.

Now ideally we could maybe use a 4th rounder + a 3rd rounder to get back up in the second round if there is a player of interest there for us. So in my scenario we'd end up with 1 first rounder, 2 second rounders, 1 third rounder and no fourth rounder. I'd definitely take this exchange since second rounders have a much higher rate of success in general than fourth rounders who have a pretty low rate of conversion into quality starters around the league.

With those picks I'd hope to get 1 DL, 1 OL, 1 Safety and one other player. This is the strength of the draft so I assume we could manage this. I wouldn't be averse to adding a WR if a value proposition presented itself with the other pick but I'd also be okay with getting a 3rd lineman with the pick. We have under-invested in the trenches for far too long. I think since 1999 we have chosen only 1 DL in the first two rounds (Marcus Spears). Since 2000 I think we have chosen 3 OL in the first two rounds (Tyron, Gurode and Jacob Rodgers) That is a total of 13 drafts and 26 potential picks that we had and we only put 4 of them in the trenches. Those are your low risk bets and we routinely refuse to use them in the trenches but have no issue with backup RBs and backup TEs.

I would love to have your scenario play out. A first, two seconds and a third rounder in this draft would be terrific. I would go a combination of OL/DL/S like you. I could see the team going WR or RB if the right guy was in the right situation, but both lines and S is probably the ticket.

As for Carradine... I do like him but I prefer Datone Jones by a good margin in our situation. IMO, Jones is going to be a very good player and what I like so much about him is that along with some SDE, he should be able to play at the 3-tech DT too.

I see Carradine as being similar to Spencer while Jones is a bigger, more powerful DE. If Dallas needed a strong DE for a few plays or even for most of a game, Jones could play there. Jones on running downs and Spencer fresh for certain passing situations, or Spencer giving Ware a break on the weakside and Jones playing the strongside for a few plays. There are lots of ways that Jones could be used at DE.

Of course Carradine could do most of that too, except he would probably be less stout in the run game. What Jones can do that Carradine can't though is play at the 3-tech DT spot on some passing downs. Jones is extremely quick-twitch for DT but he had enough bulk to hold up on some passing downs there.

Everyone talks about how quick Richardson and Floyd are at DT this year... well Jones is quicker than either one of them and has better feet as well. He wouldn't hold up at this point as a full time DT (although he could eventually grow into that), but he would be fine in some situations there.

I just see Jones as a guy who could provide exceptional pass rush potential (at DT) and exceptional strength and bulk (at SDE). He is the right size to do a little of both and could get a butt load of snaps as a rookie helping all up and down the line.

That's why I like him for Dallas more than Carradine (although I do like Tank as a player).

I'd be fine with Datone Jones, too. He looks like a prototype LDE or could play 3 technique for us if he beefs up a little bit. He just doesn't have the top end speed of most edge rushers that Carradine has but he is no slouch for speed and has very good agility.

Werner, Datone Jones, Sly Williams, Manelik Watson, Jonathan Cyprien.

Honestly getting 1 of those + and extra 3rd and 5th sounds more appealing than just staying at 18.

I would take Werner at 18, possibly Williams and Watson, too, depending on how they grades out. But definitely Werner at that spot.

This works.

BTW, Fluker and Vaccaro are gone by then for those expecting them, imo

I think Datone Jones is going to be a real good player in this League. He has moved up to #20 ranking at CBS Sports.
