Which run starts first RB or CB

We have seen in the past where the draft has a run of positions when it is somewhat strong in that position.

One year we seen the Oline run and we traded down and got the last guy from the list of first round Olinemen we wanted in Travis Frederick.

In that run in the first
Eric Fisher
Luke Joeckel
Lane Johnson
Jonathan Cooper
Chance Warmack
DJ Fluker
Justin Pugh
Kyle Long

Travis Frederick

Now this year I think the CB and RB is the ones that will go on a run in the first and second rounds.

What I don't know, and what the team has to try and figure out is....Will the CB run or the RB run go first.

I have a feeling the CB starts first.

The reason for this question is...do you gamble that you should get the Top CB first and worry about the RB in the second...or the other way around.

My guess is that unless Gurley, Gordon, Malcom Brown or Kendricks are there...they go CB in the first and hope to get the RB in the second or third round.

What I worry about is them passing on the a RB in the first 2-3 rounds and after that deciding there is not one they are better than what they have on the roster and we find ourselves in similar situations in the past where we kept waiting for them to take a DT or DE and only getting one in the last round...if that. Same for taking a safety and waiting for them to take one only for them to basically pass on them all together.

I think rb starts off early. Gurley and Gordon seem to be locks for first round. Someone else may jump into the first with a team getting worried.

Your answer can probably be gained by looking at last year's first round CBs:

Justin Gilbert - fourteen games two starts
Darqueze Dennard - six games two starts
Jason Verrett - six games four starts
All of these players were probably more highly or equally regarded as anyone likely to make it to the Cowboys choice.

Other players like Phillip Gaines (3rd round), Bashaud Breeland (4th), Bene Benwikere (5th) and E.J. Gaines (6th) were able to make the field just as much if not more.

This is exactly why I HOPE we don't take a CB with the 27th pick! A Mike Jenkins starter kit is not worthy of a 1st IMO. We need an impact player there. If we go DB there and there are BPA on the board we know we are reaching. Had freaking Mo lived up to his billing we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now!

Bang for the buck is what I am concerned about. Unless they simply cut Carr loose, any rookie will be fortunate to play in the nickel. Plus there is the natural learning curve to begin with. I just do not think a CB we are likely to have a shot at with the pick will be that kind of prospect able to step in and start right away unless they make it have to be that way.

A RB, LB or DT could step in immediately.

Were we interested in those players last year?

I don't recall CBs being a substantial number of pre draft visits last year but I really don't remember.

More CBs will go in in the 1st than RBs...imo.
My guess is that the real run for RBs starts in the mid 2nd round.

About the only one Dallas showed much interest in was Verrett. A little bit with Breeland.

Thanks.

I could not remember.

Seems like there has been talk of them interested in first round Safeties some that last few years but not CB so much minus the Mo trade up out of the blue situation.

I think you're right. Gurley and Gordon will probably go in Rd 1, but that's not a "Run", IMO. There is a strong possibility that several CB's could go in the first.

I do not think there is much question that they will draft one high, especially since they are not giving Claiborne his fifth year option. I just do not want them to force it in the first without thinking it through.

They have to kind of wonder if they are better off with the CB first and RB second or the other way around.

I think they might be feeling that the draft will fall a way this year that the first and second round pick will fall to having a player that is graded about the right spot on their board but have to decide which player they view is the better player to take first.

Of course this is all speculation on our part as they might have a totally different idea or plan of how they think the draft will unfold and how they feel they will play it.

CB run will happen first. After Waynes, I think Peters, Johnson and Jones will be gone before our pick.

I can very easily see a HB run in the late first considering the needs at HB with Ajayi and Coleman sneaking into the late first

I agree with this...I think the CB run happens first (not counting Gordon and Gurley)...but I think the big run of RBs start in the Second and i have a feeling we might wind up hoping this or that player will be there in the second and find out they are gone. Then they decide...well we will wait to the third and grab this player or that (Say Yeldon or Davis) and they are taken before we get there.

What are the odds that we wind up going into the season with a RB corp that consists of who we have already on the roster and nobody else...that kind of scares me.

I honestly think we will be part of that late first HB run. I have a feeling we are going to go Ajayi at 27 and Coleman will come off the board at 32

And Verrett was outstanding.
Some say he was playing at a Pro Bowl level when he got hurt.

Something of note and I can not remember where I read it.

But not only did they have Ajayi Come in the visit...they, (cowboys/coaches) took him out to dinner.

I do not know if they took the other visitors out as well or it was just him...I also wish I remember where I read or heard it.

But if they did not take all the other players out...that would be interesting.

They typically only take guys they are going to take at 27 out to dinner

Problem with this is...Was it true to begin with and if it was...Did they take any other potential first round guys out to dinner who they think they will be able to draft.

One could go back and look at the interest they had in Tyron Smith with mutliple visits or talks with (visits, pro days and so on) and 20/20 says it was obvious all along.

I am starting to get that kind of feeling with the Cowboys and Kendricks...seems like they have had multiple different visits or talks with him from what has been reported.

Now you mix that in with the news about dinner with Ajayi and it keeps you guessing...which guessing is the fun part this time of the year.

Ive seen that they were highly impressed by Ajayi's visit. The dinner could be they wanted to see him in a casual environment
