Which Safeties are best in deep coverage?

I've seen many safety prospects this year that are hard tacklers and strong at the line of scrimmage but who are really the best at deep coverage? What we have been lacking is the deep coverage at safety, so we need a player that can do it all.

Who are those safeties that can supply that deep coverage?

Isn't one in this draft.

Rambo can do it all. It's so clear watching all the safeties game film that Rambo is head and shoulders above the other guys. He has playmaker written all over him. I guarantee if he goes to a team with veteran leadership on defense or a powerful coach he will be a pro bowler in 2 years at the most.

Rambo is not the best safety. He doesn't like to hit. Kiffin and Jerry likes astride that can hit and tackle, rambo does neither.

Vaccaro is the most complete safety

Vaccaro gets short shrift for some reason. He's a good player.

Ill take Rambo over Vaccaro any day.

Rambo got it done in the SEC.That is as close to the NFL you will get in college.

I seen ever game Vaccaro played in.
He is good but played against lesser talent in the Big 12.

Any time Vaccaro played against a top receiver he got lit up.

It can be argued that the big 12 plays more like the NFL teams in the passing game.

If that is the case, Vacarro was a non factor in that WVU game.

These people just go off of what scouts say. Rambo can't tackle? Go look at his tape on YouTube. Not his highlights, his game tape. He tackles fine. You people are funny. We need a fs that has range and instincts and Rambo IS that. This draft needs to get here NOW!!

dude is such a playmaker. It baffles me how anybody can think someone like Vaccarro is better.
I've been on the Rambo bandwagon since I thought he might go in the supplemental draft last year. He is a big time playmaker, but to think he's more complete than Vaccaro is off base. He had tremendous players all around him, that makes the job of a safety easy, and, by playing in the SEC, he was playing against pro style, rather than spread offenses. Big time difference in what a safety can accomplish imo.

And that's a pretty crappy film. He really does not embrace the physical aspect of the game. Even those two strips early, he got driven back by the RB, that ball doesn't pop out in the NFL, and the other guys get an extra 7 yards or so.

If Vaccaro, a safety, was matched up with a team's best WR, that's a flaw in the defense itself. There are maybe only 5 guys in the NFL now who could match up with top WRs. He's a safety, and asked to only play safety, and not also slot corner, in the NFL, he will be a better player.

the best safety in deep coverage by far was phillip thomas.
I really like Thomas in coverage as well. I thought he may even be available in the 3rd, but starting to doubt it now.

Yeah I agree with you. I really like Vaccaro and think he can be a great all around play making safety. Playing on that UT defense last year really didn't help him showcase his talent. He did get the opportunity to play in the slot and showcase his man cover ability. However, playing the nickle all year cut down on his chances to make plays from the safety position in clear cut passing downs.

dismissing the "complete" part, lets focus on the actual original topic. Who is the best deep coverage safety. You mean to tell me Vaccarro is even close to Rambo? And Ed Reed isn't the best tackler of running backs. Who cares? Take the ball away.

I think dismissing Vaccaro as a great deep safety is a mistake. Rambo certainly did more from there in college, but I think a lot of that is dependent on scheme, matchups, etc. Physically I don't think there is anything Rambo can do that Vaccaro can't.

If I thought Rambo was even in the equation, I'd be more excited about him. Love his game.
But what's the point? Why is he even included in some the mocks on this forum when odds are severly against him even being on our board.

You never, I guess. Maybe Garrett feels like he has enough RKG-types now to support the additon of a few knuckleheads who can play.
