So, it’s obviously our ongoing annual need for safety, which never seems to end in terms of draft pick resource or dollar resource. We just — it’s been at the low end of the totem pole there. Stephen Jones

At least Stephen Jones acknowledges the need, after year upon year of not using a premium pick at the position. We are all aware Quinn's scheme need a single, high free safety to thrive, think this is the year the Cowboys finally address the need in a proper way.

Which Safety do you want the Cowboys to draft?

-Moehrig-top prospect by many at the position. Cowboys reportedly love him. He was more of a split safety at TCU. Compared favorable to Jessie Bates. Not going to be the best tackler nor great in man coverage, but has the necessary range we seek at the position.

-Grant-an older prospect, but has the most experience at the single high, safety position. He was the best defensive player at the Senior Bowl. Can play either Safety position and has legitimate, playmaking abilities.

-Holland-I have come full circle with him. He is more of a chess piece type of safety, he can play many roles, where his calling card is in coverage.

-Jamar Johnson-another split safety prospect who is coming off an excellent season. He has all the tools to play the position but many have said he is a very poor tackler, could be the Grant Delpit of the group.

-Molden*-he is more of a slot, nickel corner, but he has played a little safety as well. Many believe he can make the easy transition as he possesses the instincts, physciality that the position requires. Quinn has a history of converting slot corner to Safeties.

Others to consider-Cisco, Washington, Sterns

At 44 I would take Grant, Moehrig, or Holland (in that order)
At 75 I would take Molden as a safety convert
At 99 I would start considering Washington if we didn't already have a safety but would be tempted to wait until the 4th

Not a fan of the strong safety types with Wilson and Neale already on the roster.

Early on, definitely want a Free Safety, but wouldn't be opposed to taking one of those hybrids like Nasildeen or Daeblo later on.

Below where their ranked

Moehrig at 44
Johnson at 75
Holland at 75
Grant at 75
Deablo at 99

Moehrig 25-44
Grant 30-55
Holland 40-99
Johnson 60-115

I'm intrigued by the thought of converting Molden/Washington as well. But that's only if we use the early picks on other good defensive players and get wiped out but can grab one of them 75 or later, which I doubt.

is Grant now 75? I thought we'd have to take him at 44. The safety class is a little hard for me to get a bead on. We would add 2 and a CB

Moehrig.

Just so we can see America's Cowboys head explode after he's argued he's overrated and not a FS.

Most boards do, right now NFL has him right behind Holland at 74-76 due to football IQ they like his coverage ability though. The disappointing thing is they only have a starting grade on Moehrig. I've noticed that there's a maturation process even with the batter safeties that takes some time. I guess Antoine Winfield start for the Super Bowl champs though. A lot of the safeties would be good in nickel and dime packages covering the slot so there's some versatility going on too.

If they want Moehrig they will have to trade down a good bit and get wiped out of first round CBs.
Or they could trade back up to the second half of the first or top of the 2nd.
I doubt he will be there at 44

If they don't take him Grant, Molden or Holland....

Look for them to do their normal type of thing and wait till the later rounds and do not be shocked if they take Jamien Sherwood from Auburn or someone similar. I know they have had some interest in him and it seems to be the Cowboys way.

I could see them taking CB, DT, OT, LB and maybe even double dipping at CB before they grab a safety.

Holland and Moehrig are 1a and 1b. I’d be happy with either of them at any point in the draft. I think Holland might end up being the better ballhawk in the NFL. Moehrig is a more sure tackler and is more of a physical specimen.

Grant is a solid prospect and a tier below Holland and Moehrig. He’s an older prospect, which I’m not a huge fan of.

Washington has electric instincts and is a turnover machine but he’s so small to be a full time, true FS.

I really like the later round prospect Christian Uphoff as a project. He’s my ultimate late round pet cat. Very instinctive and flies to the ball.

I know I am cheating but If we draft Surtain I would go with a ball hawk like Holland because Surtain is less likely to blow his assignments. If we draft Horne I would go with Grant because he is older and experienced. Moehrig I am just not that impressed with.

I'd love Moehrig, but you would likely either have to trade back into the first to get him, or be higher than 44. Taking him at 10 would be a big time reach. At 44, Holland would be my preference over Grant. A guy I would keep an eye on later in the draft would be James Wiggins.

My rankings would be Grant, Moehrig, Holland. Want the player who has the most experience at the single high position, who can come in and hit the ground running. Any of the three, I would be happy with.
