Which type of receiver do you want, Dane's Top 100?

Clearly, the Cowboys are going to take a WR somewhere within the top 3 rounds, based on the numbers. We have to remember, we are implementing a different scheme, where we may see more multiple receiver sets, then those double TE formations.

19-Addison-Combine (route runner)
21-JSN-Combine (slot)
27-Hyatt-30 Visit (deep speed)
29-Johnson-30 Visit (Big X Receiver)
39-Flowers-30 Visit (versatile inside/out, quickness)
42-Downs-30 Visit (Slot)
48-Scott-Combine, Private Workout (versatile inside/out, quickness)
55-Tillman-Private Workout, 30 visit? (Big X/Y Receiver)
72-Mims-Dallas Day (Slot)
80-Rice-30 Visit (Big X Receiver)
85-Mingo-30 Visit (Big X Receiver)

Couple of my own opinions:

-Dak has worked better with high-end route runners/separators, rather then the so called big receiver who struggles getting separation.
-Cole Beasley a slot only receiver had his best season in Dak's rookie year, especially on 3rd downs.
-Cowboys are moving away from their specific WR prototype, is it a coincidence since we are changing schemes?
-MM might employ more of a Full Back and 1 TE sets this yr. TE wasn't a big weapon for the majority of his years at GB.

The only 2 on the list that worry me are Tillman and Rice. Great ball skills and production but as you mentioned a little worried about separation at the next level.

Outside of that a LOT of great options.

Where is Dell on Danes list? He’s one of my favorites.

But to answer the question, I personally would like a route runner who is the possession type to help Lamb. Can cooks be that guy? I think they will lean towards a shifty slot WR to give Dak an inside target and keep Lamb outside to justify him being the #1wr. If so Flowers would be a nice addition IMO.

He wasn’t on his top 100, but know the Cowboys had a private workout with him

JSN, Flowers, Downs, Mims, Scott, Dell would be excellent fits as that slot, possession type

Same can be said about Mingo, who I love, but probably a bad fit with Dak

I don’t know, he just seems versatile and someone you can move around quite a bit and scheme open while he develops as a route runner.

Don't think he will ever be a separator, but he is a beast in the open field, can say the same thing about Rice. These receivers are more like Burks from last yr.

Any of them but Rice would be an upgrade. I would take any of the top 8 depending on which one fell. I would look at Tank Dell or A.T.Perry ahead of Rice and Mingo.

Boutte is not in Dane's top 11 receivers in this class? Weird. Dane's usually a bit more level headed.

The best one available at #58...

All WRs in this draft are too far outside the modern NFL prototype. It's OK to make exceptions to measurables for DeVonta Smith level talents but none of the WR in this draft are that type of prospect.

I'm sure one or two will end up being good but the probability of predicting which one is too low for a 1st round pick.

Those big body prototypes were for our previous OC's, it appears MM is more open to adding these undersized types. Cooks probably wasn't even considered due to his lack of traits years ago when he was drafted. The other thing I would add, Dak has a better track record with separators and struggled with Dez who was the type of receiver you have to throw to when covered.

It's the weakest top end WR class I can remember. I wouldn't spend a 1 on anybody on that list. Great draft for second round slot guys though.

This is a very unusual draft class for the position, where they are so many undersized receivers. The teams who can figure them out, can find some diamonds in the rough, like the Rams did with Kupp a few years ago. He was in the contention for MVP that SB year and he could play anywhere on the field. Believe he was a former 3rd rd selection.

It’s weird the way it’s setup this year. Feel like we almost have to get our target in round 1 or 3.

1: JSN, Addison, Johnston, Flowers, Hyatt
2: Downs
3: Scott, Mingo, Dell, Mims, Perry

I think they really like Downs. And if they don’t get their guy in round 1, I think he’s one of the favorites if available in round 2.

I think the board will stack well for us. If they like one of the fallers in round 1 take him. If not, Downs in round 2 or one of the sliders in round 3.

They are certainly looking at all the top guys through day 2. Tillman is another that I hear whispers they really like and could be a 30 visitor as well.
