Whispers From The Star ( October 2nd 2020)

-
Why we shouldn't blame Dlaw's performance

- Should we start planning for life without Tyrone Smith ?

- Should we start planning for life without Lael Collins ?
You can add a few others to that list as well...

Collins and the cowboys response to his condition is comical and pitiful at the same time.
Jerrah replying when asked “I don’t know what’s wrong, the doctors don’t know what’s wrong and I don’t know if he will return this season”
The cowboys boast of their world class training facilities, staff, access to doctors etc...
Collins participated in most if not all of training camp and was counted on playing.
Yet he has a mysterious “injury or ailment” that no one is able to determine.
Does any of this make sense to anyone?

Is it possible that his ailment is related to money and maybe the feeling that he’s worth more than what he agreed to? Maybe he spent some time getting advice from Zeke...

Any way you look at it, there’s more to this story than what we are being told.

People keep saying we have to draft all defense. Unfortunately it looks like OL will have to be the priority.

Our OLine is in trouble.

......and there lies the problem we have with restructuring contracts to try and ***** our spending to get under the CAP max.

We're paying Smith and Collins for another 3/4 years and each year the guaranteed money is raising in correlation with the chance that injury will restrict their performance.

The way our roster's constructed, we have an exposed weak bench....we throw ridiculous money at a number of star names in high profile positions whilst ignoring the grunt.

.....and as with Diggs, drafting doesnt always give immediate results.

If we have a weak O-Line (i agree no depth and injury concerns) why are we going to pay a QB incapable of scrambling whilst assessing the field... it's not an issue with Dak, but if we have Wilson or Adams the O-Line wouldnt be such an urgency.

I keep saying its about units - having a talented WR corp and a QB being paid $40m is useless if the O-Line cant protect the QB enough to get the ball away accurately.

A perfect example of that was Russell Wilson in 2017 was it? There were games where every time he completed a pass it was holding.

This is exactly what really pisses me off. Lets pour all resources into the offense except lets not go with pedigree at QB and blame the defense and coaching for not doing well.

Could it be the car crash?
Erik Williams was never quite the same after his car accident.

Regardless, Zeke really misses these linemen that are out. It’s really hard to keep a cohesive offensive line in tact for any length of time.

The team will be in trouble regardless of how we look at it. Cap wise if we pay a QB, and that's regardless of how well he plays. And the offensive line. On the bright side amidst all of the doom and gloom, if our defense starts to show up, Dallas can be dangerous. Think about it, how many defenses are playing well right now? Scores are through the roof. I think our D is better than it appears and by mid season we'll start to see that. Our offense is exactly how it appears provided the O-Line holds up.

The way rosters are, pertaining to league rules, salary cap, rising contracts, etc., etc., EVERY TEAM is going to have concerns and weak spots. While some FO’s ARE better than others, it’s a “fact of life” there are going to be ‘feast or famine‘ periods. Yeah, the Cowboys have made what most would call some “questionable moves”, but the constant handwringing seems kinda like an unnecessary overreaction. Some head scratchers? Yeah, but overall I think we have a FO that’s better than most.

I’m not directing this at you—just generalizing, JMO!

I thought of that as well. We might want to shrug it off since it hasn't really been talked about by the team as an excuse for Collins missing time, but there might be some physical problems it caused that he has to have time to recover from.

As to your second point, that's why I always had trouble with Garrett's process. It appeared to me that he was the architect or at least compliant in the idea of slow-building a team. You just can't do that in today's NFL. You want to draft well, but you can't get every position filled with quality players through the draft before you start losing some of them.

I understand why the Joneses feel like you overpay in free agency, but they also have to understand that you often get what you pay for. Look at the Gerald McCoy situation. We got him for pretty cheap (and I thought it was a good deal at the time), but the reason we got him for pretty cheap was because he was damaged and we were essentially taking a gamble on him being able to avoid injury. Dallas protected itself financially against it, but that doesn't do anything to help the team improve on the field.

Maybe we look at a possible conversion project from DL depth to OL help.
We did it before, wasnt it Mark Tuinei without looking,, wasnt he converted from an early role at DT to an Offensive Tackle?

I don't remember, but that's not easy to do. Hopefully our C pans out and we take best available T/G first round next draft. Not as exciting as a WR, but that unit has to be made solid again.
