IRVING, Texas - The call is going out: In an effort to give the fans attending Sunday's NFC divisional-round playoff game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium a common bond, the Cowboys are encouraging the some 64,000 fans to wear white, wanting to create a "White Out" effect for the nationally-televised game.
The club will be handing out promotional white rally towels to fans entering the stadium to further help this effort for the first home playoff game for the Cowboys since Jan. 2, 1999, when they met the Arizona Cardinals.
Now fans might have to get a tad creative wearing white on Sunday since the weather forecasts are calling for a high of 58 during the day but the low dropping down to 40, which likely will begin taking place around the start of the second half.
The game also will be highlighted by Grammy-nominated pop and R&B singer and song writer Brian McKnight performing the National Anthem prior to kickoff, and then at halftime multi-platinum county music recording artist Neal McCoy will entertain the Texas Stadium crowd.
Practice Squad Adjustment
The Cowboys made only the second adjustment to their practice squad all season, signing first-year defensive back Tyler Everett on Wednesday to replace cornerback Quincy Butler.
The first-year corner has been suffering from a tendon problem in his foot and underwent surgery this week. Everett began his short NFL career going to training camp with Denver in 2006. He was signed to the Chicago practice squad after he was released on the final cut, and spent 13 there before getting signed to the 53-man roster for the final three weeks of the season.
The Ohio State defensive back then began the 2007 season on Minnesota's practice squad.
Giants Still Ailing
The Giants went through their first full practice Wednesday in preparation for Sunday's playoff game without the full services of four starters.
Three of the starters missing practice were cornerback Sam Madison (ab strain), right tackle Kareem McKenzie (ankle) and wide receiver Plaxico Burress (ankle), who has been highly limited during practice all season but still manages to play on game day. Madison, though, missed the first-round playoff game against Tampa Bay this past Sunday.
Also missing that game was starting center Shaun O'Hara with a sprained knee. He was listed as limited in Wednesday's practice. Backup corner Kevin Dockery (hip flexor) didn't practice.
Short Shots
The Giants and Cowboys each went 7-1 on the road during the regular season. The two teams played nearly identical road schedules, the only difference being the Cowboys played at Carolina and the Giants at Atlanta. Each beat only one team qualifying for the playoffs on the road this year, the Cowboys beating the Giants and the Giants beating Washington the third week of the season . . . The Cowboys own a 15-7 record in divisional-round playoff games, winning their last six played at Texas Stadium. The Los Angeles Rams were the last team to beat the Cowboys in a divisional-round game at Texas Stadium, back on Dec. 30, 1979, winning 21-19. Since the 1970 merger, the only other divisional-round game the Cowboys lost at Texas Stadium was also to the Rams, a 14-12 loss in 1976, giving them a 9-2 overall record in the divisional-round games . . . Phillips has become the sixth coach in NFL history to lead three different teams into the playoffs. And he took over for the only coach to lead four different teams into the playoffs, Bill Parcells.
