Craig Morton was a very good QB.

Dandy Don is easily a top 3 QB for this org. It's Staubach, Meredith, and Aikman and then everyone else.

Yep, clearly Tony Romo. Similar to a QB like Stafford. A Superbowl calibre QB playing for inferior teams with poor coaching. Shame Romo never had a genuine chance to win a Superbowl without having to catch his own pass to reach one. The lack of respect from some supposed Dallas Cowboy fans on here is nothing short of disgusting.

Shut it. Romo had his flaws. He wasn't all world perfect. He contributed to many losses, especially during must-win games.

Part of Tom Landry’s greatness was his ability to win with different QBs. Between 1970 and 1982- 13 seasons- the Cowboys won a whopping 19 playoff games with three different QBs- Craig Morton, Roger and Danny White.

Randy Hughes, safety, 1975-1980. He started one year 1979 when Charlie Waters tore his ACL. Otherwise, the 6'4" strong safety was an impact wrecking ball on opposing teams as the third safety. There were lost of turnovers when he was on the field as a their safety. In the Jan 1978 Super Bowl against Denver, he intercepted one pass and also recovered two Bronco fumbles.

funny part is you act like Dak sucks and romo is great.

as a non biased cowboys fan that loved both romo and Dak it’s a toss up. 2 different styles but near identical in quality of qb.

if romo is SB caliber, which he was, then so is Dak.

grew up watching aikman. He was surrounded by arguably the best supporting cast in nfl history. He basically snapped the ball and handed it to emmitt. Had jimmy ad a coach, nfl all time leading rusher, best oline in nfl history and the #1 defense in the nfl.

threw for like 200 yards a game and just over 1 td per game. Accurate on short and medium throws. Long ball was average. When we needed big comebacks he struggled to wing take over in the passing game. Didn’t win a single game without emmitt. As soon as the oline went he looked like dalton out there.

love aikman but was overrated.

Aikman wins zero SBs with this team or Garrett’s teams.

Aikman basically drove the bus and did it better than anyone in nfl history.

I know a lot of cowboys fans don’t want to hear it but it’s true. A lot of these fans think everything is the qb. Both stauback and aikman had the best teams around them.

when white took over the supporting cast was fading and he still made it to 3 nfc championships.

Romo will always be the most underrated just because of the vast chasm between the team’s success and his personal production/ability. Very, very few QBs in history could have finished .500 with the 2011-2013 teams we had. Those were all 3-4 win teams with league average QB play.

I always felt Terence Newman was underrated as well. His advanced coverage stats during his prime were insane (once gave up 1 total TD over a 32 start stretch), yet he was never thought of as a shut down corner at any point. He also was still very productive at a very advanced age for corners.

Kevin Smith 3 SB winning teams played a tight good CB for yrs had 20 INT’s in 9 yrs and is a Cowboy all the way not a hybrid from another team brought to Dallas . Drafted here stayed here.

The beauty of the Jimmy Johnson era was what a wonderful job the team did in scouting drafting and yes coaching .

I have a short list of guys for this list. But first my criteria:

• A guy who was never a star
• Contributed to teams that won playoff games
• Is under appreciated outside of Cowboys world. (And maybe in Cowboys world as well)

Here are my three most underrated in no particular order:

• Larry Cole- DE- 1968-1980- played for 13 seasons and played in a whopping 26 playoff games for Dallas, including 7 NFC championship games and 5 SBs, and has two rings. Made many big plays in huge games. His tackle of John Riggins on 3rd and 3 in that skins game in 1979 saved the game and season. One of Tom Landry’s favorite players.
• Tom Rafferty- G/C- 1976-1989- played for 14 seasons, mostly at C, and played in 18 playoff games including 2 SBs and 5 NFC championship games. One of only 5 Cowboys to play for BOTH Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson. In 1989, he started the first 8 games at C, and was succeeded by a young guy named Mark Stepnoski.
• Bill Bates-S/ST- 1983-1997- played 15 seasons and became a fan favorite as a ST star and backup safety. Played in 14 playoff games, 3 SBs and 4 NFC championship games. Was another of the guys who played for Landry and Jimmy.

Who’s your most underrated Cowboy?

Daryl Johnston.....we know all about that OL....this guy just helped keep guys off Emmitt, the NFL all time leading rusher.

Billy Joe Dupree is often overlooked. He was a very good TE in his day.


Maybe Butch Johnson and Golden Richards as well.
