Who are we building this team to beat?

Watched the NFL Networks 2-part series a "Tale of Two Cities" this weekend. Great story of how the 49ers built their team of the '80's to beat us and how we built our team in the '90's to beat the 49ers.
The Patriots have worked to stay ahead of Peyton's Colts in the early 2000's.
You can see how Arizona is building a team to beat Seattle.
Our division sucks. Our only rival with any success is Green Bay.
Without a chief rival being really successful and trying to play a chess match to match their strengths, are the Jones' and Garrett lost about knowing what to build from one year to the next?
We don't seem to model ourselves after the Patriots or any other team in the league. What works one year sure doesn't work the next. I'm just wondering if we had a rival that was really successful, would we have more focus from year to year?

I think that is an interesting question. I don't have the answer. And I am quite sure no one in the Cowboys Front Office does either.

Watching the depth both offensively and defensively of a bunch of other teams (Pitt, Ari, Car, NE, etc...) really makes me sick to my stomach. Not so sure even with Romo that we would make noise in the playoffs this year. Romo makes people better and improves all facets of the team for sure. Take Cam, Tom, Ben, etc... from those teams and you won't see the same product either. Trying to stay rational and not lose it after this Super Turd of a season.

I don't think this applies to today's NFL as much versus the pre free agency era where teams were built. Teams turnover so fast that their identities are parallel with those changes. Success takes your team apart. Look at this past offseason. How many players did we lose to FA after one succesful season?

Cowboys need to be thinking about how to get past the Packers and Seahawks over the next couple of years. That's most likely be the two teams blocking the Cowboys path to the Superbowl?

Why?

Rodgers and Wilson are the #1 and #2 passers (by QB rating) in NFL history. You win in this league with passing.

Seahawks have been to the playoffs 4 years in a row (including this year), the Packers 7.

Russell Wilson will be 28 next season, Rodgers will be 33.

Seahawks are going to be good for a long while, and Rodgers probably has 2-3 years more of prime play left.

Those are the two teams I expect to be consistently in the NFC playoffs and therefore the teams the Cowboys need to build themselves up a bit to beat.

They need to be worried about Carolina, Arizona, GreenBay and Seattle. Just think how Green Bay will be better when they get Jordy Nelson back and Carolina when that beast Kelvin Benjamin returns.

After watching a lot of games this weekend, Dallas really needs to upgrade their skill positions. Teams are throwing out so many weapons at wr, Te and rb it's ridiculous. Outside of Dez who has to get iv's every week we don't have anyone else that scares the defense. We need more speed in a lot of areas on this team.

The Cowboys are built like a Old Big Ten football Team. When they would play teams in the Sec or pac 10 you could just see the difference in overall team speed and Athleticism.

I'm not sure anything is even being built. At all.

That is because there isn't anything being built.

We win games simply due to more of our guys winning their individual matchups than their guys. That is the bottom line. There is no advantage or creativity coming from this coaching staff, they simply bring nothing extra to the table and when we win games it is by talent alone.

Even the Dallas media (who love Garrett) are starting to say this, that he does nothing to help his team win games.

Gossling basically said he was a glorified cheerleader..............and these are from guys who like Garrett.........ouch

I don't see any rhyme or reason of a team being built for something specifically. It is more like a hodgepodge of players thrown into an ineffective system that doesn't mix.

This is not a collective unit working as one but individual players"trying" to work as a unit. Take a main cog out and it all breaks down :(

It is an interesting question. Carolina is the team I worry about. Cam is unconscious right now and they dont have benjamin. Arians will always be in the mix ad well as long as he doesn't have to go to the 3rd qb
