Who are we? What are we?

Right now I have never been so confused over a team before. I think you can make several arguments who we are. I'll name them in no particular order of good or bad.

1. We are a bad football team for not being able to handily beat KC, who was destroyed by our competition the Giants and Eagles. If we want to get any where we need to handle these guys easily and should of handled them easily.

2. Since 07 we have regressed slowly, is it getting to that time to rebuild? We can only be above average for so long. In 07 our offense was outstanding and today we have trouble moving the ball on bad defenses like the Panthers and Chiefs. In addition, has Romo gotten any better since then? Yes, he cut down on his turnovers this year but in doing so eliminated what made him good, his playmaker ability. To me, it's a wash. If he's a gunslinger we lose 30-27 to the elite. If he's conservative we lose 17-10 to the elite teams. It's like pick your poison to me.

3. Our wins have come against teams that are combined 1-13. Enough said. What have we proved?

4. Our losses have come against imo the best team in football right now the Giants(just being objective) and the 5-0 Broncos. The teams we lost to are combined 10-0. We have lost to the elite and in both cases were in position to win.

5. The coaching staff are idiots and imo we are winning in spite of them. For example, the penalties keep coming. One of the main reasons we lost to the Giants in the playoffs in 07 was due to the amount of penalties. Offside s by the defensive line and Flozell and Columbo getting their normal ones in, where is the discipline? Can we win 10 games like this? We're not as talented as 07. Plus, Jason Garrett has a love affair with his veteran guys. We could have Barber playing with two broken ankles and he would still feed him the ball 20 times even with having nice back-ups. Crayton is as plain and average as you can get in this league and he will still play him because he's a veteran guy. Again, another hurdle to get over. I still say Chris Johnson would still be a nobody if he was on this team. If we had White/Johnson combo instead of Barber/Jones last year I still think Lendale White would of got 20 carries a game under Garrett.

6. Tony Romo has been very average thus far this season and when he gets back in the groove he will carry this team. I really think he will get better as the year goes on and that means more wins imo.

7. Even though we beat a bad team that might have been the thing that gets us over the hump. Don't overlook chemistry. That celebration will only build team unity and we have two weeks to feel good about it. It could be the thing that starts a run. It takes something small.

Conclusion? I have no idea where this team goes from here. We could go 10-6 or 5-11. What do you think?

Duuuude pay attention.

We have trouble finishing drives, not moving the ball. Way different.

We are who we thought we were. And we aren't going to let the season get away.

Exactly.

And I don't think a team's -- any team's -- true identity is etched in concrete five games into the season. Maybe the Giants are what they appear to be, maybe they're not. The season has many twists and turns for all teams.

My opinion is that this is a team that is able to compete with everyone (that much is clear) but as you said, Future, struggles to finish. Be it games, drives or halves. Our inability to finish seems to stem from a lack of mental sharpness. A missed tackle, a hold or a drop or an unforced turnover really seems to stop a lot of our progress.

How many of our drops and turnovers, for instance, have been caused by great football plays by the opponent? Some certainly have but many have not (such as the two today).

I'm not convinced we have the brains on the coaching staff to get us to the point where we're ever firing on all cylinders. But the plays are there to be made on a regular basis, meaning the design of the play and the caliber of the player executing them isn't too subpar. It's just a matter of being mentally ready to finish the execution on a consistent basis.

My point is take the first 3 quarters of the Panthers, Broncos and Chiefs game and we scored a grand total of 20 points I believe in 9 quarters. In a way your right. We need to fix that and why is it taking us so long to score? We need to be more consistent. Will that ultimately hold us back?

I don't know who or what we are (other than fans) but the Cowboys are an enima wrapped in a mystery.

The Cowboys are like a great sprinter that always forgets to lower their head at the finish line. Against bad or mediocre teams, our talent will usually be enough to overcome this crucial mistake. Against good teams, it won't be enough.

We have the top ranked offense in the league right now. We have the ability, but not the discipline to put our heads down at the finish line and put our opponents away.

That is the type of team that will, year after year, have all the gaudy numbers/statistics but none of the results. Guys like Romo and Ware will continue to break records, but it won't mean a thing until we obtain the discipline to deliver the death blow.

IMO, the answer is that we are not a good football team. To many mistakes, to many penalties, to many circumstances where we fail to execute.

We're not a good football team. Perhaps we can improve. Perhaps not, but right now I would not consider us good.

We are a team that does a lot of things well that Championship teams are required to do but at the same time we are prone to turning the ball over and getting a ton of penalties.
