It's no secret that last year, Jerry filled two gaping wholes by completely overhauling our corners. It's also no secret, that though they didn't play awfully, they didn't play up to their potential. So Zoners, this coming season, who are you looking to make the biggest strides and play up to their potential, Claiborne or Carr, and why?

I disagree about Carr not playing up to his potential. He was VERY good last year and IMO he played up to his potential. We'd all love to see more INTs, but overall he played up to his contract. Carr is not an all-world CB, he's just a good CB who,due to the salary structure of the NFL, got market value as a FA. I don't think expectations for his play should be much higher than he gave us in 2012.

Claiborne on the other hand is past his rookie season and should show significant improvement. I wasn't dissappionted with his play either though. As a rookie, growing pains were expected, but I'm hoping we see a big jump this year.

I worry about the CB position almost as much as the Safety position. For a $50 million player and a number one pick I think they were outplayed by many other CB tandems in the league. When Mo either is playing 12-15yds off the receiver or has his back to the QB and chasing the receiver there are problems. I'm also not sure how good a tackler he is? Carr just doesn't have the speed to contend with the top receivers. I hope they show much needed improvement.

i think it wasn't their level of play, but what our former DC asked them to do and his scheme that's never seemed to work in the NFL.

This might not make sense, but I am going to say that Carr is going to have the better season just because I think the ball is going to be thrown his way more often.

I think fans rush for results and don't wait long enough for human beings - read players - to adjust to their new roles and team mates.

Mo was a rookie that lacked the strength that all rookies seem to lack when they get to the bigs. But he has a mad set of skills.

Carr was pretty much it for the defensive backfield last year.

Both were playing in a gimmick defense that was neutralized because it did not have the correct players to accomplish its goal.

This season has a new scheme coming in. That will cause some problems because the best players react, and that has to come from being familiar enough with the scheme that reacting is natural. When they reach that point then this queston will be moot.

Mo will be greatness at some point. Carr will be accomplished provided they put the right defensive front to keep the pressure on the opposing quarterback.

This game is still about the trenches.

I think Mo steps it up big time this season. Ronde Barber in his prime type production.

I agree with this. Claiborne is ready to dominate -- he played somewhat cautiously last year -- this year with a year under his belt he'll be playing up to his true ability.

I really think you see Mo take that step to be the best corner on this team and a future staple of the defense. I believe this scheme is going to be a little bit of a problem for Carr. He really does not look that great when he isn't getting his hands on WR's. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some backlash directed Carr's way by mid-season. Another thing we have to start thinking about is how much money we have wrapped up in our corners right now. If we don't hit on a very good pass rusher next year we could be spending big bucks on one in FA.

The NFL rules aren't going to allow those guys to just be completely shut down. They will get beat at times. Even if they play at an all pro level.

Agreed. What we saw last year from Carr is about what we are going to get. Maybe he plays a little better, but in terms of room for improvement, Im of the group that believes in the potential of Claiborne, and he has a lot of room to grow this year.

It will be Claiborne because Carr just about played as good as he can last year, and I don't mean that in a bad way-- he was the best corner in the division. Claiborne could make a huge leap next year just by playing with more strength and confidence. But that doesn't necessarily mean he'll have the better year.

Morris Claiborne IMO. Year two in NFL and he's due for a big leap in production because of experience.
