Out of all of the contract extensions on the horizon, which would you be most comfortable in not paying?
  1. Demarcus Lawrence
  2. Dak Prescott
  3. Amari Cooper
  4. Byron Jones
  5. Ezekiel Elliott
I think these are the big ticket items on the immediate horizon, with others to follow down the road.

Out of this group, I'm most OK in letting Jones walk. And that's not a knock on him, it's more of a "can't pay everyone" admission. Byron Jones had a fine year in 2018 and made the Pro Bowl. He took very well to Kris Richard's system and coaching. But out of the group, I am most OK with letting him leave in relation to the others.

RB is a position that is not best to sign after they’ve played out. Like everyone else I value Zeke but honestly what’s he gonna have left by 29?
If you want to keep Zeke you sign him now so you can dump his contract sooner, otherwise I use 5th year option and maybe tag once
Jones is a guy I love but we’ve had recent success in drafting CB’s and I think he is likely to be let go
Cooper you gave a pick for, you have to sign him
You don’t have another QB so you have to sign him and the same applies to Dlaw

I dont pay Zeke and I dont give Jones big money. One good season with zero picks is NOT worth top money. Give him 8 million per year now and be done with it.

Zeke I let him play out his 5 years and see where we are. If he is still a great back I franchise him. In the meantime I draft a talented young back or two and plan for his replacement.

Most comfy: Amari
Least comfy: Dak

It's pretty much common knowledge these days that the RB position is the easiest to fill. The playoffs showed this with Todd Gurley.

I would keep Zeke 2 or 3 more years.

Elliott would be next on my own do not pay list as well.

I think they're running him into the ground given the number of carries and the wear and tear. And teams always live to regret giving running backs that second big deal. I'd start looking for another one as well. In fact, I think they need one to replace Rod Smith right now.

With all we need a RB may not be in the cards but the need for a better backup atleast is certainly there
And if you lucky and he’s a viable starter that solves the Zeke issue

Get Cooper and Elliott done tomm, they are the 2 best players. You have time on Dak let him play on his contract this year and if need be franchise Dak the next 2 years

I think Zeke will be good for another 6 years -he is a great back.:bow::bow:

I don't want to let any of them walk honestly, but if I had to, my first choice would be Byron and my second choice would be Zeke. I don't want to throw away the first good corner we've found in a decade, but for $15 million either way, my theory is that Zeke adds more to the offense than Byron adds to the defense.

Zeke would be next, simply b/c D-Law and Dak are damn near irreplaceable (unless you want to spend a few seasons in Case Keenum journeyman type purgatory, Dak's the best QB you're going to get) and Coop is looking pretty close to it. The draft bust rate for WRs in recent years has been enormous, and you're not going find another guy with Coop's combo of speed and route running very easily. For example, I don't think there's a single WR in this draft class that can do what he does.

1,2,5.

Jonens depends. Only if the price is right.

I am not paying anyone until they're contract is up including Prescott and Elliott and would use the option on Elliott and get another RB after his 4th season, this upcoming one to see if I had his replacement on board..

I would use the tag on Lawrence this season and also use Lord Byron's option and because there are not many other options, I would try to extend Cooper but would let him go into his final year if I couldn't get a reasonable deal done. I like Cooper but I want to see more and two of his years he led the NFL in drops.

All of this is probably not feasible, so I'd change the order of importance of your 5 above for long term deals to be Lawrence, Jones, Cooper, Prescott and Elliott. I see absolutely no reason to extend Elliott. Has he overperformed his % of the cap? Of course, but isn't that the point? Isn't the game paying players less than they are worth for as long as a team can?

We used a 1st on Cooper....you have to sign him

Thoughts on each:
1. Tank- 3 possible options here- a. sign him at market value (I favor this because he’s still only 27) b. Franchise him again- although I don’t think Tank will be happy w/that or c. Some kind of trade for a draft pick but that’s complicated. I would sign him. Good Pass rushers are extremely hard to find.

2. Dak- I think he will eventually be signed here long term. But I favor letting him play out his last year. Why rush it? If he’s what we hope he can be, let him show it next year.

3. Amari- he WILL be signed to a big deal, and at 25 next season it probably makes some sense. I’m just not that big on spending a lot of cap space on a WR. But because of the trade last year, this team has to sign him. It will happen for sure.

4. Byron Jones- I’ve always said he’s better than too many fans here say, but we can’t keep everyone, and he’s not worth a big deal in 2020. I say let him walk.

5. Zeke- If I was GM, I would see this team as having a 3 year window with Zeke. Two under his rookie deal and one with the franchise tag. If I’m GM, there is ZERO CHANCE I sign Zeke to a long term deal. Very few RBs have proven to be worth the long term investment in this league. By the time 3 years have passed, Zeke will have 6 years of high miles on those tires. I know this would be unpopular with many fans, but I don’t see signing Zeke through his early 30s as responsible cap management.
