This may have been discussed, but I was wondering, .. since Johnson left, who would come in for Gurode if he can't go for any reason?

Dallas may have to look at the draft or FA to find a backup center. From what I see none of the guards on the roster have any experience at C.

That's what I was thinking, and that concerned me.

But I don't know every players capabilities.

I just looked at the profiles and we have guards who have some experience at tackle but none that I have seen that have played center. I'm sure the Cowboys will address this issue one way or the other be it FA or in the draft. I can’t see us going into the season without someone to backup Gurode.

I could've sworn that one of those guards we picked up last year on the practice squad could play center? Berger maybe?

And i thought i remembered a press conference where Parcells mentioned one of the guards doing work at center.

Oh you know, i think it was Whitley, and he's gone now, so nevermind

It isn't Whitley as most folks expected.

I doubt we go into TC without someone who is a vet backup or a rookie C taken as a 2nd day pick. It would be a mistake to have as a backup a guy who has never played at Center

How much work could they possibly have received with Gurode and Johnson ahead of them?

On their NFL profile it shows neither guy has ever played center. I don't know how much practice they have had with the Cowboys but that seems risky having a guy who has never snapped in game as your backup.

Leroy Harris from NC State would be a good pickup in day 2 of the draft.

I'd be surprised if we drafted a Center cause we have more needs to fill with our first day picks and 2nd day picks probably couldn't provide any help. Since neither Proctor nor Berger listed as having any center experience, would hope we sign a vet FA center who could also help out elsewhere on the OL--which is something Johnson couldn't do. It would also be helpful if this new center has game day LS capabilities which allows us to cut LaDouche(sp?) to use this spot elsewhere.

Frankly I'd like us to sign 2 more FAs who much cheaper but good provide depth on center(also perhaps at other OL positions or maybe even as a LS) and a legit backup to NT Ferguson. We could of course draft a NT who cfould replace Ferguson some day, but it's doubtful he could help much in his rookie season. Besides we haven't a clue whether last year's 7th rounder, Montavius Stanley, could fill that void this year. It would be interesting to know Phillips thoughts on the matter.

Do read that a FS from Detroit had visited Dallas yesterday but don't know anything about him. If we really wanted a good FS, it looks like Kersaveus (SP?) is best option out there but would that throw a kink in Watkins development?

I think Trey Darilek has experience at center. As of now, I'd say he's the backup.

the biggest problem will be on the game day roster. you need a guy who can play g/c so you can just have 7 olinemen active.you could get away with not carrying an extra ot because kosier, and davis (assuming he plas guard) can play tackle.i would be surprised if we drafted a guy

I did not see his name on the Cowboys roster, I see Davis name added to the roster but not Darilek

Before Dallas even thinks about cutting LS Ladouceur we better be darn sure his replacement is as good. We did this before and it hurt us. We can't have bad snaps on extra points or in the punting game

Berger and Proctor both have worked at center in the past.

They have never played the position they may have snapped in practice but neither have ever snapped in a game. If one develops into a center great but there is no past experience and fumbled snaps is something we do not need to deal with.
