Who backs up Gurode?

They have never played the position they may have snapped in practice but neither have ever snapped in a game. If one develops into a center great but there is no past experience and fumbled snaps is something we do not need to deal with.

Well Dooms that's life in the NFL... I'm betting that one of those guys (Proctor or Berger) get's a ton of time in at center through the mini-camps and training camp.

You just can't have an experienced back-up at every position.

Adams
Kosier
Gurode
Proctor
Berger
Davis
Rivera
McQ

That's 8 guys already.

IF we sign Colombo there is #9.

Add a rookie from the upcoming draft (which I'm sure we'll do) and we're at 10 offensive lineman.

No room on the roster for a spare center (only) Dooms. And they must like Proctor/Berger or they would have been cut already.

Playing experience is one thing being able to play center is another and having miss snaps lead to turnovers, it is not an easy job and for guys who have never done it at any level is a hard thing to over come. I would hope Dallas will look for a player who can play both guard and center as for the 8 guys you have listed there it is no sure bet that all we be with us at the start of the season.

But who says neither guy (Berger/Proctor) has never played center level? I don't know this... do you?

According to draft profile both guys have played Guard and Tackle nothing about Center. Myself I have not been thrilled with the play of the line to begin with so keeping the all 8 guys you named is not a thrilling thought to begin with. I would hope Dallas will look to find better options or as Parcells would call it churning the bottom of the roster and in the process bring in a guy who could actually played Center.

I think Trey Darilek has experience at center. As of now, I'd say he's the backup.

Good call. I forgot about him. I don't know enough about him, Proctor, or Berger to know who's better, in general, or who'd be better as a BU Center, but I do think Darilek has some experience there.

Procter hasn't. He has played guard and tackle, but I'm sure he spent some time snapping on the scout team last year.

I don't think Berger did either. I think he was also a guard/tackle. Of course, he had a 3.7 GPA in mechanical engineering. I think he could handle the line calls.

I don't see the issue with this. Either could be groomed as a back up over the course of mini-camps and training camps especially if they have already been working it.

However, I still wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas draft a guard/center combo. Doug Datish wouldn't be bad later.

That would make sense.

You really want a backup that has PLAYED center. Not just practiced it. So drafting a second day developmental guy who can play guard as well but who played mostly center in college makes the most sense.

ALA Gurode - played mainly center until moved to guard in his final year in college

sounds like a great idea to me in the 4th/5th.

Oh and I bet Rivera retires before the season starts, he is done.

Here are a couple more names of guys who can play both the G and C position
OG Kasey Studdard ~ Texas. OG Brian Daniels ~ Colorado

Berger was worked at center with the Dolphins and Proctor was worked at center last year along with Whitley. Anymore than that you'll have to ask Sparano.

Seth McKinney, C, Dolphins

If he is healthy and available, he would be a good addition, IMO.

Whitley if he comes back healthy might be a descent option as well.
