That saying was stupid even before it was played out. Here's what some of their fans are saying.
http://whodatzone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3238

They stole it from the 1980-81 Super Bowl Bengals who used to have the entire stands say "Who Dey". The Saints switched it "Who Dat" later in the 80s.

I was living in New Orleans when they did not say it and when they later began saying it (roughly 1983 or 1984) .....and I went to a Bengals game in 1980 (vs Raiders) and it was deafening with the who dey chant.

So definitely one of the few who has seen both live at the time and knows who started it...it was not the Saints, though they'll swear otherwise.

Good Lord... as if I don't hear "who dat" enough here in south mississippi.

With all due respect to @Hostile ... the Saints bother me more than any other fanbase. Of course Hos is right, but he doesn't have to live down here in Bandwagonville.

I feel your pain and I definitely think they have the most obnoxious fanbase around for a team that has been born losers aside from one season. They get awfully rowdy when it comes to playing The Cowboys, the fans and the team itself; there's some one sided bitter life-long rivalry in their minds.

I work offshore. Pretty much surrounded and in close quarters with nothing but Saints fans for 28 days at a time. I feel your pain.

They are the most obnoxious fanbase in the NFL.

I viewed that little thread about Dallas vs Saints and honestly they seem pretty humble. They think their team will win, but they're definitely worried about this game. I definitely didn't see any "77-0 Tennessee Titans" prediction by their fans.

You should have tried living in upstate NY during the early 90's. That honor goes to Bills fans. Gnats fans were downright humble compared to them. I also lived in Washington DC when they won in the 88 Superbowl, and most my life in the Bay Area during the Whiner and Raider championships. Whiner fans hold 2nd place for obnoxious, but are a distant 2nd when compared to Bills fans.

/Funny part was the Bills fans were still more obnoxious than the Gnats fans after the Gnats won that Superbowl.

I see you didn't watch this year's midseason flop by the Atlanta Braves...

That is a true story and the Bengal fans still say that to this day.

"Who Dat" became part of a chant for fans cheering on their favorite team. It has been debated exactly where it started, but some claim it began with Southern University Jaguars fans either in the late 1960s or early 1970s and went "Who dat talkin' 'bout beatin' dem Jags".[7] Another claim is that it was connected with St. Augustine High School, a historically African-American all-boys Catholic high school in New Orleans, and yet another is that the cheer originated at Patterson High School in Patterson, Louisiana (home of Saints running back Dalton Hilliard).[5] In the late 1970s fans at Alcorn State University and Louisiana State University picked up on the cheer.[8] Fans of professional wrestlerJunkyard Dog, a star on the Mid-South Wrestling circuit from 1979 to 1984 who frequently appeared in events at the Louisiana Superdome and Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans, had a similar chant: "Who dat think they gonna beat that Dog".

in about 1981 Cincinnati Bengals fans and players had started with their similar "Who Dey" cheer ("Who Dey think gonna beat them Bengals").[10] In a 2006 article, Toni Monkovic, a New York Times writer, speculated that the 1981 popularity of the Bengals’ "Who Dey" may have led Saints fans to expand their use of "Who Dat", from the "small number, and possibly a very small number" of Saints fans using it in the late 1970s to the much wider use of the chant in 1983. She noted that the fan bases of the two teams continue to disagree about this, and that ultimately the evidence is unclear

Why would Saints fans have any reason to respect the Cowboys?
