Who do we trade: Witten or Bennett?

I have seen threads in here saying we should trade one or the other. I know you need two very good tight ends to win in this league. The tricky thing here is Phillips looked PHENOMENAL before he hurt his knee last year. Obviously we should keep both if this kid can't come back 100%...but if he can, what then? Do we part with Witten: he'd bring a first rounder and we could get a safety with our pick and a cornerback or olineman with the Witten pick. OR, do we deal the mercurial Bennett for a 2nd or 3rd rounder?

I know some of you will respond by clicking on this little guy::bang2: but this team has alot of holes to fill on the oline and secondary specifically and we won't get an opportunity to draft young talent without giving something up. (MY vote is to deal Bennett: if they'll take Barber with him it'd only be a bonus. I'm sure Sparano would love to have both)

I would trade Bennett if we could find a taker.

Should have kept Fasano. :bang2:

No, we shouldnt have.

Bennett is a better player than Fasano, and we got some pretty fair players with the pick we got back from that trade.

Should have cashed in Bennett when they had the chance.

Don't trade either at this point.

Marty wouldn't get much and Witten is too valuable.

I'm a huge Jason Witten fan, 7-8 weeks ago with the missed blocks and false start penalties along with the drop in production I was actually starting to think we should see what we could get in the offseason in a trade. But now? I think he's stepped up in leadership, production, and just about everything.

He's a true warrior and I could not imagine him playing elsewhere. He's everything you would want in a Cowboy. Doesn't matter who's under center, who we have on offense (looking at you T.O.), #82 is a consistent and reliable weapon, future member of the Ring of Honor and likely Hall of Famer.

geez - this isn't maddedn , why do people have to trade any player that shows value? isn't that what *we're* after?

This.

We need both players. With the number of times we run a 2 TE formation, we need 3 capable TEs in case of another injury. And now they're starting to use the 2TE shotgun formation more and more.

We need all three of our TEs, really.

Right. Trade away our number one and two TE. With an injured 3rd stringer left in the cupboard. Smart.

We run a 2 TE offense over 50% of the time. And it's our most efficient formation.

Try to plug one hole by creating another.......nothing ever gets fixed this way.

I'll take neither for 500, Alex.

bennett has more talent, but is not a better player.

that is the trap many fans and Dallas gets in. lots of talent that doesn't translate into winning football.

It reminds me of the debate between barry sanders and Smith.

Sanders had more talent but Smith was the better player. That is why Dallas is always letting guys go that become productive for other teams. They don't understand the difference.

I would keep both unless someone is offering us a mid 2nd rounder for Bennett.

You keep all 3. You don't dig a hole to fill another hole.

:Madden:

How come all of a sudden having 3 good TE's is a bad thing? There is a team in NE who are doing some good things with a solid group of TE's.

The question was which ONE, not both.

Like who?

We spent a 2nd on Fasano in the first place then traded him for a 4th round pick. Then spent another 2nd rounder on Bennett who has been nowhere near as productive as Fasano.

Not sure what you are basing your statement that Bennett is better than Fasano, because he isn't. He might have more potential but so far it has mostly been just that, potential.

In the 3 years Bennett has been in the NFL he has 66 receptions for 691 yards and 4 TDs.

Over that same period Fasano has 104 catches for 1321 yards and 13 TDs.

Bennett is a better blocker but he is highly unreliable as a receiver, runs poor routes, and drops too many passes.

everything you just posted here is negated by the fact that Fasano was afforded the chance to start.
