Assuming we can beat the Chargers

Does a loss put the Giants out of it or does a loss by Philly help us more?

New York will be mathematically all but eliminated with a loss.
Dallas has the opportunity to handle Philly at home if necessary.

I was just thinking about this.

This upcoming Saint game is going to determine everything.

I'm already counting that as a loss. So if we can somehow squeek that one out then we are in good shape.

Either way, we control our own destiny. If Giants win and we lose to the Chargers than they jump ahead of us with the tiebreaker.

The week 17 Eagle game is going to be another "win and your in" game IMO.

Man...I don't know whether to reach for the Jack Daniels or load up on Zanex.

Either way I can't handle this stretch alone.

If we beat the Chargers.......we want the Eagles to lose so both the Eagles and Giants would remain 1 game back of us.

If we get beat by the Chargers......we want the Giants to lose. The reason is because we suddenly go from a division winner to a Wildcard team and the Giants losing would all but eliminate them from Wildcard contention.

Look at it this way, if we lose to the Chargers the division is gone. Time to start thinking about how to get a Wildcard. So by the Eagles winning and us losing (the Eagles take a 1 game lead, but the Giants are basically eliminated from playoff contention). Thus, there is 1 less team competing with us for a Wildcard.

Either way, I figure it is going to take 10 wins for a Wildcard, so that means we have to go 2-2 to have a shot.

Would someone please fill me in as to why the Giants would be eliminated from wild card contention with 6 losses? Everyone one says that if the giants lose one more game then they are done but after today, they still have 1 more loss to give in my mind

We can lose to either the Charger or Saints (or Commanders, for that matter) and still control our own destiny for wrapping up the NFCE by beating the Eagles in Dallas.

Thats true, if we lose only 1 game of the three (Chargers, Saints, Skins). We then beat the Eagles and win the division at 11-5.

However, if we lose to 2 of those 3 teams then we can win the division with a win against Philly AND Philly losing another game. If Philly only loses to us and wins their other games, they are 11-5. If we lose 2 out of these last 4, then we would be 10-6 and lose the division.

Now of course additional losses by the Eagles will change this, but I am not counting on having any help. I think we have to go 3-1 with a win over PHilly to take the division or else we are looking at a Wildcard.

Not saying the following scenario is likely but, if we only lose one more game and the giants win out, we lose the division. After today the giants really are right back in the thick of the division race.(just like the packers after they beat us:bang2:)

I think 10-6 ends up winning the division this year. At least I hope it does, because we look like a 10-6 team right now.

The Giants aren't going to win out. We need to help ourselves and make a point by beating the Eagles no matter what, so the real difference is what happens between now and that last game of the season. As long as we're within one of Philly with that game on the line, I'll be pretty satisfied with the regular season.

Yea, I just dont see the Giants winning out either, especially considering they still have to play Minnesota. However, in the unlikely event they win out and we lose 1 more game......the G-men take the division since they swept us. I would literally be sick if that happenned.

I dont think 10-6 does it becaus I dont think Philly is going to lose a game before that last game with us. So I think it will take 11 wins for the division and 10 wins for a Wildcard.

in terms of winning the division it would be good for us if the Eagles win. We hold the tiebreaker, it's that simple. I doubt that they'll lead us by two games before week 17.
If you look at getting in the playoffs no matter what, a Giants win would be better. That would give the Eagles another division loss and make them 1-2 in games against DAL and NY. If we win in week 17 and have a three way tie, that could put the Eagles out of the picture. If we somehow end up in a three way with the Eagles beating the Giants, that cut be really bad for us. H2H would be 2-2 for each team, divisional record 4-2. It would then come down to common games and we have to wait since two of these non-common games still need to played (PHI vs SF, NY @ MIN).

And yes, this all assumes us winning in Washington and against Philly. If we drop one of these games we can most likely kiss the post season good bye if GB doesn't drop 4 or 5

We'd need to win 2 and Green Bay to lose 3 and we'd get the wildcard since they own the tiebreaker. The rest of their season is pretty ugly too.

Giants lose two more and they are most likely gone fishing for the playoffs. 9-7 ain't going to get you in.

I believe you are mistaken. If we beat the Eagles and end up with the same record as philly, we will automatically get the playoff berth over them regardless of division record

If we beat Philly in week 17 and both teams have the same record, then we will win the division since we swept Philly in this scenario.

Head to head is first tiebreak

Divisional record is second tiebreak

Conference record is third tiebreak.

I'll be rooting for Philadelphia.

Basically, there is no margin for error anymore wrt the Giants, and looking at the rest of their schedule (Philadelphia, @Washington, Carolina, @Min), they have a very good chance to win one more game than the Cowboys.

It looks like Minnesota will be the second seed, and unless New Orleans loses before week 17, there won't be much incentive for the Vikings to lay it all on the line in the regular season finale. The Giants, OTOH, are likely to be playing for their playoff lives.

You can look at Philly's schedule, too, but Dallas doesn't necessarily have to keep pace with Philly. It is possible that Philly could go 3-0 over the next 3 while Dallas goes 1-2 or 0-3, but if that happens, it doesn't really matter who wins Sunday night.

In a two-way tie with Philly, thats correct. The same way the Giants beat us in a two-way tie. In a three-way tie you would've to look at all H2H games. At lot of funny things can happen there and it's too early to look into the scenarios. And it also depends on who would be eleminated in a three-way tie first.

i would rather have the Giants lose because the more they lose the better chance we have to get in the playoffs and thats either winning the division or wild card. I just want to get in the playoffs
