Thought he showed something against the cardinals

Had a pocket presen

More than Magee ever did

On par with Matt Moore

Maybe trade him down the road or replace orton next year

Certainly he's got more vslue than the fifth safety or 10th Olineman

That 10 consecutive completion touchdown drive could keep him on an active roster and off practice squads around the League. I think you have to keep him but I'm no NFL GM or Professional Football Scout.

He could have the "It" factor better than Moore and I think he does. Wonder if Stephens can make the PS.

Unfortunately these pre-season games are nothing more than a Tanney audition tape for his next employer. Either he is #2 on the roster or he is gone. He will not last one day on the practice squad because he will be snatched up quickly. I wish the league would put in rules that allow a team to protect themselves from other teams taking the players they current team wants to keep.

Some say if he goes to the PS, another team will grab him...I am not so sure on that. But, he doesn't give the team a better chance to win than Orton, and, I don't see the Cowboys carrying more than 2 QB's on the 53-man roster.

JJ has to gamble if they want to keep this guy

He might give the Cowboys a better chance to win in the future than Orton, He is fun to watch.

A lot of these kids will never see the active roster if such a rule existed.

Normally I would say keep him and develop him on the practice squad, but he's played well enough that I think another team will pooch him away. That makes me wonder what's the point of a practice squad if another team can just snag players away, but that's another issue. In this case I think Tanney has shown enough to be our 3rd QB. The team's gone with 3 QBs before. In fact Romo was a 3rd stringer at one point and he's worked out pretty well. I'm not anointing Tanney as the next Romo or the next Kurt Warner just yet, but I want the team to keep him. There's some chance he could develop into Romo's successor. Again, that's far from a certainty, but it's possible. He may develop into next year's number 2. That in itself is reason enough to keep him. I don't think the practice squad is enough. If we do that, I think he ends up elsewhere.

Again, just 1 game. Need more evidence in next 2 games.

Why do we care? Romo is our QB for at least the next 4 seasons at which point Tanney is a near 30 year old QB. That's not who you start over with. Try to get him to the PS. If you can't oh well.

Our future at QB isn't in this camp. In fact the future of our QB position is a high school Junior or Senior.

Have no idea why people are spending so much time thinking about this kid.

You probably would have said the same thing in 2003.

Did I sleep through the 2003 season when we had a top qb who just signed a 108M contract?

Did that happen and I just missed it?

What part of Tanney will be 30 years old before this team even considers moving on from Romo didn't you understand?

Because he can be turned into a draft pick or a backup qb

This has nothing to do with romo

Maybe that's true. Maybe.

Is it worth cutting a guy on the roster bubble who is young and could potentially contribute this season or be developed into a starter at a position of true need?

He could become our backup and let us release Orton next year and save about $3M off the salary cap in a season when we'll be very tight against the cap.

He also could potentially be traded for a good package if he ends up getting in a few games and lighting things up. Romo has missed significant time in 2 seasons thus far in his career.

The bottom line is that you don't just give up good football players for nothing. The hardest position to find is a starting caliber QB.

It's a gamble, but a gamble I would take.

But keeping him has a cost (the player you cut). And really we are talking about 11 straight completions which suddenly has people talking about cutting Randle to keep him. Yeah...no.

We shouldn't keep any rookie QB prospects because we have signed Tony to a 108m contract.

Not sure where you got that from. I certainly didn't say that.

Besides Alex Tanney is not a rookie and is 25 years old.

Pass.
