Nobody has to be released. That’s not how it works. The rules allow for 2 call-ups from the practice squad on game day for a “55 man roster.” When they get called up their will have to be 7 players, currently on the 53 man roster, inactive on game day to get to the active 48. Rush and Maher will most likely be back on the practice squad next week. A player can be called up no more than 3 times.

The inactive’s will probably be.

1. Dowdle
2. Gallup
3. Ball or Waletzko
4. Ridgeway
5. Harper
6. Joseph or Wright
7. Mukuamu or Bell

Don't think Dowdle will be inactive since he's our third back. I'd add in another receiver, like Houston. We'd still be carrying five (Lamb, Brown, Fehoko, Turpin, Tolbert) and I'm not sure how much Houston adds to special teams at this point.

I don't think that they have to release anybody at this time. There are ways around it. At least I think that.

Possibly. I agree Houston would be the next one probably inactive. There were games last year they only dressed 2 RB’s though.

So with 2 players eligible to be activated for the game. What to they do when Peters is ready. They will still need to make a roster move to be able to still call up Maher and Rush come game 2 or 3. Or when they needed to permanently activate both.

Yes they could go 6 weeks at QB between Grier and Rush.
I guess they could rotate K”s by signing new ones every 3 weeks until they find the “guy they like” :muttley:

So Maher and Rush are going to get moved up on game day... so who gets bumped?
It's my understanding the two players getting bumped up to the active roster don't count against the 53-man roster if it's on that game day. You just have 55 players with 7 inactive. No one gets bumped until the next day.

If we're going to use the two RBs on the field together more, though, I would think we'd want to have the third one out there. Although I do think Turpin would pick up some of the snaps that I expect Pollard to get.

I could see us leaving Maher on the PS for those first three weeks to see if he proves himself before signing him to the roster. If he doesn't, then we can claim a kicker off a PS or sign a FA.

Not required. Two call ups per game allowed. Post Covid rules.

Do you know the salary implications on these "non-elevation" additions to the roster?

I'd assume they would get a game day check reflecting the minimum for their experience rather than the PS pay -- but the language around them not being elevated throws that into question.

Would love to see Ridgeway play opening night and bring some nasty. But he needs to play well…
