Me and a buddy were discussing the possibility of A. Henry moving to FS and drafting a CB in the 1st (hopefully not) or 2nd round.

He asked me who has successfully made the transition from corner to FS. Can you guys think of anyone recently who has done that?

Wasn't Marcus Coleman a pretty good CB with the Jets before becoming the Texans FS?

Yes, he played both.

And you can add Ronnie Lott. He played cornerback very early in his career.

Rod Woodson
He's the best example I can think of too. It prolonged his career and I think gave teams and players the idea it isn't a bad move for some.

Ronnie Lott was a CB at USC but moved to S in the NFL.

Darren Woodson was a LB in college.

I thought Lott spent his first season or two at corner for the 49ers.

Everson Walls played safety for the Giants.

Henry has already played FS for the Browns. I think he will be a good safety, but does he want to play safety this year or next?

All of the above have done it. A lot of corners who lose their top end speed move to the FS.

Lott moved to Safety in 85. Came into the league in 81.

Here's some other guys who made the change. Mark Collins, Troy Vincent, Corey Chavous, Cornell Green.

Mel Renfro was one of the rare guys who moved from Safety to Cornerback and became one of the best ever.

Can't remember anyone who did it so young that wasnt forced to by injuries. So basically Henry is going nowhere.

Guys move because of injury or a lack of talent. Moving Henry would be a waste.

Even better, he was a RB in college.

Renfro was a consensus All-American halfback at the University of Oregon as a junior in 1962 and he made The Sporting News All-American team in 1963. He was chosen by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 1964 NFL draft.

A two-way player in college, Renfro became a defensive back with the Cowboys and also returned kicks during the early part of his career.

One of my all-time favorite players. :starspin

How bout moving A. Glenn back there if all you want is coverage skills, then use some of the pups like Frazier or Reeves in the slot to get them some more experience.

hes way to small to play FS. hell get run over by RBs and TEs all the time...as an fs you have to come up and makes tackles which he doesnt do well.

i kind of remember Darrell Green of wash moving from corner to FS late in his career. Am i remembering right?

Anthony Henry also played FS in Cleveland at times.

The money we gave Henry doesn't make sense if we are going to move him to FS. If we move him to FS and then go and draft ourselves a CB in the 1st round, we will have 4 players with BIG contracts in the secondary. If we were planning to move him to FS, we could have spent less money on a real FS last off season and skipped signing Henry all together.
